The Human Resources Sergeant’s Role in the Profession of Arms
A Profession is a career in which one gains expertise through training. Professionals develop proficiency through higher learning and continued education. All professions have one thing in common, they always have society’s best interest in mind. Trust is the foundation for all professions. According to the Army White Paper (2010), examples of professions include, medicine, military and law.
The Army is a Profession of Arms. The Army is a profession trained in the ethical use of weapons, weapon systems and lethal force. Soldiers must be experts in their professions and always have the best interest of the people in mind. Soldiers are trusted to protect Americans and uphold the Constitution of the United States. These are more than values, they are a way of life. Without displaying these values, HR NCOs wouldn’t be able to earn the trust of their Soldiers. The Army maintains its professionalism by the values, time-honored traditions and customs it maintains and displays. HR NCOs must conduct themselves at all times in a manner that will reflect the Army Values. By reflecting the Army Values, Soldiers bring credit upon themselves, their unit, their state, and the Army. On a bigger scale, the professionalism that a Soldier displays ultimately brings credit upon the Nation.
Not only do Human Resources Sergeants play a vital role in readiness, they are also responsible for casualty operations. When a Soldier pays the ultimate price in the Profession of Arms, it is up to the administrative personnel to take care of that Soldier’s affairs. The HR NCO is the first point of contact for reporting a casualty. The HR NCO must collect the correct information in order to properly report that casualty. Human Resources Soldiers must maintain impeccable military bearing and provide excellent customer service at all
