It took years of hard work and dedication for Serena Williams to end up at the top of the tennis world. She proudly says that she came from nothing in a sport that expects you have a little something. While she’s currently No. 2, she ranked No. 1 in the world six times and held that position for a total of 309 weeks; the culmination of her achievements has led her to be regarded as one of the greatest female tennis players of all time. Serena, along with her sisters, found herself moving around the country to receive tutelage from various coaches. After moving from her birth town of Saginaw, Michigan to Compton, California, Williams held her first racket at the age of three under the supervision of her coaches and parents, Richard Williams and Oracene Price. In Compton, various other mentors helped the Williams sisters until the family moved to West Palm Beach, Florida, so Serena and Venus could learn from the tennis academy of Rick Macci. She earned her first Wimbledon Champion title in 2002 without dropping a single set; this victory was a turning point in Williams’ career as it earned her the No. 1 ranking in the world. After that, she continued to win many Grand Slam titles with her lightning serve and powerful groundstrokes. Her serve is revered as arguably the best in women's tennis history due to its incredible speed and accuracy. In addition, her comeback history’s suspense contributed to her media popularity. In the 2012 US Open finals, Serena was 2 points away from defeat at the hands of Victoria Azarenka with a score of 3-5, however, she pulled through and defeated Azarenka in an incredible comeback. She currently has 22 Grand Slam titles, a record tied with legend Steffi Graf. Her triumphs can be owed to her hard work, talent, dedication, and loving support
