Serena brushed off all the bad in her neighborhood and focused on tennis and getting better. Most athletes when you hear their childhood you hear about how small of a house they lived in or how bad of an area they lived in. But Serena had grown up in a small house with her six siblings and both her parents. To practice was on the worst courts you could imagine. “Where they practiced at their was two courts, glass all over the courts, holes in the nets, guys playing basketball. It’s six or seven in the morning. People passed out lying around. It was a rough section. ” (The williams sisters life.) When you grow up in a neighborhood that is full of crime or you have a minimum amount of space that you can practice in its hard to find something to do that is going to be safe. Most people who grow up in a bad part of town don't find a sport or something to do. Serena put all of the crime and anything bad that happened in her neighborhood aside and focused on making herself better at tennis. This is a main reason why she is as good as she is today. Serena was always a positive person and she wanted to influence people in any way she could. She wanted to show people that no matter your skin color or where you grew up everyone has a chance to be great.
