Seraphina Essay On Courage

Decent Essays
I believe that courage is the ability /power to stand up for what you believe in even if you're afraid to. Seraphina is a movie about a group of south african students standing up to and oppressive apartheid. Sarafina is a good example of courage because even though the students were threatened and even some killed they still stood up for what they believed in and didn't give up even though they were constantly beaten down. But sometimes you're forced into a leadership role in and have to protect the ones you love. Throughout the trimester we heard many of these stories but one story stood out to me the most it was called kaffir boy. Kaffir boy was about a small kid in a south african ghetto during the apartheid and how he had to protect

Many people presume that courage is simply a person who accomplishes a grand feat rather than having the quality of mind that enables a person to face difficulty or danger without fear. However, true courage depends on the eyes of the beholder. Courage is many things. Slyly embodied in both reticent and vital characters, Harper Lee in To Kill a Mockingbird and Reginald Rose in 12 Angry Men both create a broad representation of courage. In both works of literature, the idea of courage that is being conveyed is the ability to do something that one knows is right or gracious, even though it is extremely difficult.…

In the 2000 film Gladiator, Maximus, a Roman general, is betrayed and forced to live as a slave in the arenas as a gladiator, where his strength and courage alone can free him from his imprisonment. With the ultimate goal of enacting revenge on Commodus, the emperor who put his family to death, Maximus proves himself on the battlefield by defeating numerous opponents, many very gruesomely, in the name of vengeance attempting to earn a rudiarius (a sword granted as a sign of freedom to gladiators). What must be noted is that there are many other gladiators, larger and more powerful than Maximus that were unable to attain the stardom and glory tied with the name Maximus. Although he too was built strong and a splendid fighter, Maximus also had more courage, standing up to the Romans, lacking fear, and fighting for what he believed Rome should be, avenging his family in the process. The word courage is used very loosely in films of the 21st century, as close to all leading characters are scripted to show ‘courage.’…

Being courageous deals more with the emotional side of dealing with a problem. Courage is stepping out of the zone you are comfortable with and trying new things. Bravery is knowing what you are stepping into, but willing to face that fear. For example, a new sky-diver would have bravery, but a person asking someone out for a date is courage. Bravery is not a description of someone’s character, but rather a description of the actions they have committed.…

By the direct dictionary definition, courage is defined as “The quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, etc., without fear.” Courage is synonymous with bravery, but without guidance behind the courage, it turns into reckless, stupid action.
