Day 1
Alone, yet encompassed by the masses. Sequoia Middle School. The previous day, I had come and registered at this school, so consequently I had no idea what to expect, where to go, and who I was going to meet, seeing as how I hadn’t gone to orientation and didn’t have any idea about what this school was like. The first person that I happened to converse with was a yard duty of whom I asked for directions. He seemed to be a younger male, average height, somewhat skinny, and overall a nice person. He directed me to my locker and pointed me in the right direction towards my first class of the day, P.E. I thought to myself, “what a friendly environment this school has.” Had I been at Redwood, my previous school, and asked these questions as an 8th grader, I might’ve been treated with hostility and reluctance to help. That was a pleasant start to my first day, and I headed on over to my first class. The air was filled with a sort of excited tension, as students anticipated what was going to happen, what they should expect, they were agitated and there was a cloud of wonder floating around, as there usually is on

The area was chaotic and loud, with people having to almost shout to talk to others. The lunch area was incredibly crowded, smelling of school cafeteria food. I found an old friend that I knew from elementary school at a small table, and we started talking. He helped me out with where I need to go, informed me on what the school was like. We caught up, and at that point my head wasn’t spinning from confusion. He informed me of things , and introduced me to some new people. Their names were Safia and Simon. They both said the standard “Hello”, and just like that, we slipped into conversation about the new experiences I would have in this school. When I looked around the masses of people, I recognized maybe one or two faces I had previously

The eyes of the parents directed straight towards me, as if I was a threat to their well-being. With the feeling of fear I looked down at the floor and briskly walked to the line to be introduced to my teachers. My hands were shaking and my heart galloping at mach 5. Suddenly the floor became a wall with me on top. I slowly looked up to see a man with a mahogany beard, smiling at me with a sense of accomplishment.…

I was 13 going into the seventh grade and My summer vacation days were lingering to a close in late July of the sunny and quiet Webster Groves. The days were long and hot, my friends and I would roam our neighborhoods and country club always looking for fun stuff to do, especially looking for trouble. We use to weave in and out through the train tracks and small streets, using them as our alleyways because that linked both of the country clubs in Webster Groves .Then one day, when the glistening sun and beautiful day beamed through my windows and awake me from my deep sleep. My mother creeped in my room, thinking I was still asleep but I could here every crack with her footsteps on my maplewood floor.…

It was the beginning of high school, the start of a new chapter in my life; after coming into the school, the mall looked like the feeding of the five thousand. St. Thomas More has over a thousand students, and every single one was there on that first day, trying to find the way to their new classes just like me. Walking through the halls of St. Thomas More with the unfamiliar smell of the classrooms reminded me of what lies ahead. I thought it was going to be difficult, because I wouldn’t see anyone I know. Fortunately, some of my old friends from St. Pius were in my gym class, so I was glad that I would not be alone in gym class.…

As I walked through the rush of people returning to and from work I was completely indulged in the madness of it all. Everyone seems to be trapped in their own little world.…

When entering junior high, we were constantly reminded by teachers, parents, and school administrators how different it was from elementary school. It was supposed to be the start of a transition from childhood to young adulthood, and though I discounted many of these sentiments at the time, looking back it certainly was. In an instant, it seemed, everyone started swearing and the hallways began to smell of a putrid mixture of not enough or too much cologne. For the first time we had to change before gym, no one really sure whether it was more socially acceptable to change in a bathroom stall or feign confidence by doing it out in the open. Talk swirled of who got their periods, who was wearing what bra size, and which boys needed to stop cultivating…
