1. Most importantly, I hope to one day become a City Manager. Serving as an Assistant is the next logical step in my progression towards my career objective. Secondly, I want to be a manager in the Pacific Northwest. I fell in love with that part of the country in 1998 and have had aspirations of living there since I first visited. Maybe it was Junior Griffey, maybe it was the abundance of sequoias and pine trees, or maybe it was Mount Rainier. For a kid who grew up in North Dakota then Ohio, the Pacific Northwest was wild and different. Sequim presents a great opportunity to work with a variety of citizens in one of the most picturesque locations in America. Having access to the sound, the mountains, and all of the outdoor recreation options available makes the position in Sequim even more appealing. Additionally, as a local government employee in Ohio then North Carolina I have observed competing views of the role of government in citizen’s lives. Working in Western Washington would be a great opportunity to further my education on in what makes for good government.

Working in county government at the top, the distance between myself and the citizenry isn’t what I thought it would be. For that reason when I do get a chance to interact with citizens I take great joy in it. I try to always seek to understand before being understood and see interaction as a time to gauge how we as a service provider are doing. The belief in the role of government differs everywhere and I try to keep that in mind when I interact with citizens and staff. Being a Midwesterner then a Southerner I lean on the examples of Truett Cathy of Chick Fila Fame and Barney Kroger of Kroger Supermarkets. Be courteous, have intent to serve, and do so
