Gender is a societal subject that has evolved and changed so many times throughout history. Over all, though, it is evident that men have always had a precedence over women from the very beginning. It took years for women to be able to vote, get jobs that were considered "a man's job", and even today there are still issues with men and women receiving equal pay. In Charles Portis's novel True Grit, a fourteen-year-old girl named Mattie steps up to the plate to find vengeance for her murdered father. The novel takes place in the late 1800's, so it is natural to assume that women would be discriminated against.…

Although Queen Rania of Jordan says, “We shouldn't judge people through the prism of our own stereotypes,” it may be hard to see through someone’s stereotypical traits. In S.E. I could feel the connectedness of the characters in every unfolding event throughout the story and how all of them were affected by the choices Chris made in his reckless, foreboding odysseys. The author reveal the story with great details and even stated the spoken words of the characters. This in return, made me feel the weight of every sentence and how the people that were involved must have felt like knowing that they could not help Chris in his last dying moments. Near the end of the story, I was imagining how the people that love Chris all their lives or just for the short moments with him reacted when they were struck by the shear devastating news of Chris’s death. I suppose the author have cleverly written the story to the point that I could relate in a personal level to the characters in the…

American Sniper is definitely one of the most anticipated and controversial films of 2014. The movie is a biopic of the Navy Seal, Chris Kyle. His story is truly amazing and his account of what happened in the Iraq war gets the audience closer to real life battle than anything else. Clint Eastwood did an amazing job depicting the life of Chris Kyle and the stories that were inspired from the book the Kyle wrote. This movie has obviously stuck some sort of chord in the heart of America.…
