Introduction

When most of us are looking through catalogs or online for the latest in beauty products and cosmetics, the brands Sephora and MAC cosmetics always pop up. Both franchises are extremely popular in North America as well as many other countries all over the world. Although MAC opened over a decade after Sephora, their influences in the beauty industry are incredible as well as incredibly diverse. Their influences may be great with many similarities, but there are also plenty of differences between these two powerhouse beauty companies. As ELC gained control over the company it pushed for a State side opening, which happened in New York in 1994. Although, there does not seem to be any mention of them having affiliates with department stores, MAC has managed to open nearly 1,100 stores worldwide, in 105 different countries.

Mission Statement

Sephora’s mission statement is: To build the most knowledgeable and professional team of product consultants in the beauty industry. MAC’s mission statement reflects differently simply stating All Races, All Sexes, All Ages. They both show their company’s commitment to their customer base, however not in the same way. Sephora’s shows that they want to make sure you get what you need and get it done properly whereas MAC’s shows that anybody is welcome.

Employment and Benefits

Sephora’s website offers a plethora of information about their employment process and the many benefits employees will receive. The process is simply to fill out an application, the hard part would be to come if you were selected for an interview and hired. This where you need to prove your beauty skills and learn to be the best beauty consultant in your area, weather that be make up or skin care. Sephora offers a range of benefits from retirement and healthcare to vacation time and “Summer Fridays”, where employees have half day Friday’s all summer

Sephora and MAC's websites offer almost all the information needed to learn about their histories, mission statements, employment opportunities and benefits, and leading products. However, Sephora's website is the only of the two to offer any real information on employee benefits within their company. Both companies show a dedication to their craft and customers as well as professionalism and diversity in the workplace, although MAC, according to their website, has a special interest in diversity. Sephora's website depicts their company as modern, professional and very knowledgeable of the products they sell, while on the other hand, MAC's website depicts their company as trendy, fun and unique.
