Government is a system or form of rule which a community, state, etc. is governed. There are many different types of government: democracy, republic, monarchy, aristocracy, and dictatorship. These are the common forms of government. One specific principle of government is federalism. Federalism explains the separation of powers between the national government and the state government. In order to ensure that each individual’s rights are protected, they created federalism to help ensure that the government does not have all of the power. One example of federalism is freeways. The President of the United States holds the power of the executive branch. Also being the head of state and Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces, it is easy to understand that the President takes on a huge leadership role in order to try to make this country the best that it can be. Not only does the President take on the important roles of passing laws and making crucial decisions, he is also in charge of implementing and enforcing the laws that are written by Congress. This is a crucial role to take on because whatever he says, simply goes. The rest of the country must listen to and apply the laws that he has set out in their everyday lives, whether or not they agree with them. Not only does this branch contain the President, Vice President, and the Cabinet, but it also contains officials like executive departments, independent agencies, and other boards, commissions, and committees. The Vice President is there to provide support for the President. If anything were to happen to the President while he was still in office, the Vice President would take over his position for the remainder of his term. Cabinet members are much like advisors to the President. They work with the heads of the executive departments and the vice president. v Board of Education, a very well known case around the world which was based around African Americans not being able to attend the same school as white and caucasian students. Repeatedly, the judicial branch enforced judicial review by declaring that the segregation of these students was not constitutional. Due to the end result of the case, they also changed the Plessy v. Ferguson case. The Brown v. Board of Education verdict made people have a better understanding of the fact that African Americans should have equal rights for everything. They decided that the separate but equal segregation opposed the 14th amendment, proving that it was not fair for people to be living this way. The United States government is a very important aspect of our lives, whether people understand it or not. This is the reason why our country is so well-organized and has only accomplished more since these occurrences. Each branch and everything that comes with them are extremely important. These branches create laws, enforce them, and interpret them for one purpose: common good. People might fight that the government is corrupt but people do not always put together that people who run the government are also citizens. We understand that the government is of the people, by the people, and for the people. If they were to abuse power, then there would be no government. Without the government, we would be an unorganized, chaotic
