Abstract
Understanding combinatorics is challenging for students in particular, they struggle with determining when and how to implement combinations. We present an activity using ideas from the role playing of “takraw teams” to help student understand the concept of combinations to solve the problem in real life. This study aims to produce a learning trajectory using the role playing of “takraw teams” activity. Therefore, the design research was chosen to meet the research aims and to give in formulating and developing local instructional theory in learning combinations. Learning trajectory designed in the early phases and tested on 6 tenth-grade students in SMA 15 Palembang. The results showed that the activity of takraw teams

Teachers may select appropriate learning activities as the basis to stimulate students to think and act when constructing the mathematics. Gravemeijer (2004) stated that the HLT consists of three components, namely (1) the purpose of providing sufficient details to allow the work to be reproduced, mathematics learning for students, (2) learning activities and devices or media are used in the learning process, and (3) a conjecture of understanding the process of learning and students’ strategies that arise and thrive during class’ learning

This method breaks through the traditional approach to teacher and response instruction. The small group guided practice presents us with an interactive game which will guide the learning process. In order for students to learn something, they must have a genuine interest in the subject. The game is also structured in a way that is enjoyable for the child as they are able to start with one card, such as rain. After they have been introduced to the full word (raincoat) they are split apart into two different words.…

First, let’s talk about Abby Payne from Lake Travis HS, her team philosophy is Pride, Passion, and Discipline. I fully agree with her philosophy and seeing that’s how my high school team was run and how I plan on running my team one day. I also somewhat with her practice schedule 3 days a week at 7:30am and 2 at 7:00am with 2 days of tutoring for the team to see teachers. I agree and disagree with this because I feel like if you’re going to allow your team 2 practices at 7:30am the team should be almost ready to perform for the football game that week. I also agree with her worst problem with her team being that that parents are either too involved or not involved enough.…

The way teachers teach mathematics impacts how students feel and respond to the material (Dole, 2013). Therefore it is the teachers’ first responsibility to connect to students and gain a knowledge and understanding of students interests, level of learning, ways in which they learn and their capabilities. The lessons within this sequence have demonstrated this by entering a series of questioning that addresses all aspects of students’ knowledge and understanding of the concept and employing questioning and providing feedback throughout the entire lesson. Lesson activities have been developed to encourage all learning styles by providing a range of activities that incorporating Gardener’s Multiple Intelligences, by implementing the multiple intelligences into the lessons allows students to demonstrate their learning and thinking in ways that feel natural to them and plays up to their capabilities. A variety of whole class, small groups, pairs and individual work has also been incorporated into the lessons to also allow students diversity and work in a variety of ways to suit their particular way of learning but also allow them the opportunity to challenge themselves by working in settings that are not a particular strong point for them.…

As part of the Mathematics Year 7-10 Syllabus (BOS NSW, 2012), Working Mathematically has become an essential and integral part in all lessons. Working mathematically is a term unique to the Australian Syllabus in which it is used to describe and demonstrate the practical implication of mathematics in real life situations. As described in the syllabus, it includes developing students' knowledge and skills in mathematics through the processes of questioning, applying strategies, communication, reasoning and reflecting. The funds of knowledge are an asset that teachers can use to expand the knowledge of the student they have. According to funds of knowledge for scholars “Funds of knowledge is a familiar phase to almost any teacher of culturally and/ or linguistic diverse students” (David, pg.3). This statement is a powerful one since teacher and students share their knowledge through their culture and diversity variety. A teacher when is only in the classroom environment only he or she does not learn as much from students as when home visits are made. Home visits should not be only made when students are not behaving in class or have issues.…

Apparently, the interactive nature of a knowledgebased society and a knowledge-based economy mandates the ability to collaborate. “Those who have successfully created cultures of innovation and creativity suggest that one key is to… embrace participation, collaboration, networking…” Collaboration and teamwork is such a key element to many aspects of life - it appears everywhere, and this skill comes in handy later in life in many situations, maybe even tomorrow. It took me a slight bit of willingness to give collaboration and teamwork a shot and understand what is behind it, it’s not just wanted or unwanted socialization, like I thought before, it might be the key to building a business empire, for all I can know. In the modern age, when a lot of the things are already invented, it’s hard to come up with something new on your own. It’s the innovation that rarely takes place in just one head.…
