Senioritis In High School

Senioritis is an illness that affects students in their final year of high school and college. It is what most describe as a decrease of motivation. “This general feeling of apathy and nonchalance towards school work is developed after years in class and hits high school seniors” (Ng.) Most seniors fall victim before graduation, maybe even right when the school year starts. Senioritis makes seniors feel anxious for the change to come. It makes them wish for the time of graduation to come faster. Senioritis is not an actually an illness.. It is a mythical mental state passed down to each year from the year before. Senioritis is not something you can go to the doctor and be diagnosed with; however that does not mean it is not a real feeling. …show more content…
The more involved students are less likely to become bored with school. Students can join clubs or sports. A student could be on student council. Students could also join something not related to school to keep their mind off of it for periods of time. They could choose between a church group or an internship. Those students always have something interesting or exciting going on. When a student has other activities happening around them, they are less likely to think of the time they are waiting to pass, making the time go even faster. Students are destined to enjoy their last year more when they are having fun and making …show more content…
Some students drop out of school completely, with only a few months left. A student can completely ruin their chance to graduate once they fall into this unhealthy pattern. Once accepted into college, students believe they can slack for the rest of the year; however colleges will revoke the acceptance into their college if the students grades change from the time they are accepted to the time they graduate. Senior year is one of the most important years so, if a student slacks off it can have severe repercussions. Students can lose scholarships and other opportunities. These results can leave a student more beaten and battered than senioritis ever could. Senioritis is an undiagnosable mental state that most students in their final year will, or have before, suffer from. A student 's job is to fight off the feeling and graduate. If they fall victim they are more likely to fail out and not graduate. Students need to make the realization that senioritis is not real. It is just a feeling that they believe is real. It is similar to someone tricking themselves into being sick and they actually start to feel ill; yet nothing is actually wrong with them. With enough encouragement and enthusiasm, any student with even the worst case of senioritis can recover and
