Senioritis Research Paper

With only months left before graduation, does every senior flip into another mode? The mode where high school really isn’t at the top of seniors’ priorities is often called senioritis. Senioritis is characterized by a lack of motivation and a decline in performance in the last weeks of a student’s high school career. Many think that senioritis just descends upon a select number of seniors, but in reality the thought of skipping class and homework crosses the mind of every senior. Senioritis is different in all seniors based on the attitude and work ethic they have towards school.
A decline in grades is a major aspect of senioritis. An affected senior has trouble concentrating on the things that will enable him or her to walk across the stage and grab a diploma. Take the case of Rosemary, a typical senioritis sufferer who began her senior year with a 3.9 GPA. By the end of the year, she wasn’t even eligible to graduate as a member of the National Honor Society because she no longer possessed the requisite 3.6 GPA which members must have. Rosemary wasn’t even taking classes as hard as the ones she took her junior year; she simply stopped doing her work. Some

At the end of the school year, attendance usually plummets through all grades; however, poor attendance early in the year, especially in students who have previously been faithfully present, is a sure sign of senioritis. A rule called “seat hours” has been implemented to control the attendance of the victims of senioritis. Seat hours are the hours in each class needed by seniors to pass the class and walk across the stage for graduation. The last two or three months of school are when the attendance aspect of senioritis becomes truly obvious. Some seniors may only attend a total of thirty of the last sixty days of their school career or even less. The attendance of the senior class is based primarily on how vicious their attack of senioritis proves to

I think its a great idea and unfortunately many professionals forget to question their practice for advancement, especially when they have been in their job for a longer period of time. I notice many in the beginning don't look to rock the boat and then later in their careers many get relaxed and forget new changes in advancement could greatly hinder their practice by not being more open. I personally am going into Healthcare administration and would prefer to work within the Geriatrics area. I notice the lack of advanced education and training is one of the largest issues you will find in these areas of healthcare. It's unfortunate because the main drive in society has become preventive care…

In spite of their age and some physical limitations, many seniors still continue to live independently in their own homes provided that they receive some amount of senior home care services. These services may include personal care such as bathing, grooming, dressing, and meal preparation. It may also include housekeeping services a few days a week, and transportation to medical arrangements. Senior home care services may also include a higher level of care such as medical care or medication management. While family members do their best to provide any type of care for their senior loved ones, the demands of work and their own family often make it very difficult for them.…

My interest in being a resident advisor (“RA”) stems from my desire to work intimately, candidly, and meaningfully with other people. My most rewarding relationships have all been built upon some mutually meaningful connection, whether it arises from experiencing grueling football practices together, sharing a common set of interests with someone, or working with others to finish a challenging project. I see the RA position as a way to maximize my likelihood of making these meaningful connections with other individuals, those individuals, in this case, being my future residents and fellow RAs. However, I am not applying to this position for the sole purpose of making friends, and I appreciate that the role of the RA is not always that of a friend. Even so, enhancing the lives of other individuals, with or without a corresponding friendship, is sufficiently fulfilling in and of itself.…

“Senioritis: An ebbing of motivation and effort by school seniors as evidenced by tardiness, absences, and lower grades” (Merriam-Webster Dictionary. "Senioritis"). All throughout America, thousands of seniors develop symptoms of this debilitating disease, especially during their second semesters. Is this epidemic a legitimate illness, or is senioritis just a rationalization made by lazy students? Although several seniors say otherwise, senioritis is a pseudo-scientific disease employed by students to slack on their studies and extracurricular activities. Despite senioritis being a fake illness, defense mechanisms, or “unconscious process[es] that protect individuals from painful ideas” are commonly used by seniors to make their impending futures seem less frightening ("Defense…

Reflection 30: Unexcused Absences ANOVA Methods An analysis of variance (ANOVA) test is used to evaluate statistically significant differences between two or more samples (Creighton, 2007). For this assignment, I tested the hypothesis stating there is a difference between the number of unexcused absences for ninth through twelfth grade students at North Panola High School (NPHS). To conduct my ANOVA test, I first obtained monthly absence data for ninth, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grade students from the school’s Dean of Students. I then tabulated the data into a Google spreadsheet and used the XLMiner Analysis Toolpak to conduct a single factor ANOVA test.…

Introduction The introduction of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) across the country has met with both praise and condemnation. Ever set a goal for yourself, like making Honour Roll, losing weight and getting fit, or being picked for Valedictorian? Like lots of seniors that had contracted Senioritis, maybe you started with drive and hope, but then started showing symptoms; lack of motivation, excess sleeping, repeated absences and generally having a dismissive attitude. Just like everyone else, I am struggling with staying motivated towards the end of my last high school year. It is easy for a student to spend hours on YouTube, but when it comes to school assignments, after a half hour, it is break time. Is there any way to get past the senioritis mentality?…

The research demonstrated the lack of attendance was significant in explaining why a student would receive a D for a course grade rather than an A, B, or C.(Chan) Statistics showed that regular attendance was a significant determinant in minimizing a student’s chance of getting a D or an F.(Chan) The same data was used to determine the relative impact of each absence in the student’s final grade for a particular course. Results showed absence from a class was statistically significant in lowering the grade of the typical student.…
