Senior Year Research Paper

During the course of senior year, high school students are said to show various symptoms of "senioritis." Many of the symptoms include multiple absences, poor work ethic, tardiness, and a general dismissive attitude. Signs of the illness include an over-excessive wearing of sweatpants and t-shirts, forgetting assignments, and sleeping during class. For many students, senioritis is a crippling disease in which the student's college plans have been finalized, eventually causing an overall lack in energy for high school. Lacking effort in student's senior years are encouraging educators to think of several solutions to make the year more beneficial, including the removal of senior year all-together. The issue is, senior year is the most beneficial year for students. RESEARCH As Mr. McCutchan, a science teacher at Winterset High School clearly suggests, "Senior year is the final year of freedom without major responsibilities. To enter college or the work force straight after college, both are a huge responsibility and require a lot of maturity, and both are a pathway that are key in the future of the student." He is correct here, in that most high school students have no idea how to live on their own. Most juniors are sixteen and seventeen years old, and not many kids that age are ready to live on their own. This could be done several contrasting ways, one being dual-credit courses RESEARCH, as mentioned above. If schools are going to provide students with the opportunity to get ahead, they should provide students with classes as they advance through high school into college classes. Some students are moving up the educational latter, and then get stuck in a rut their senior year because they have taken the most advanced classes that their school offers. Schools should be forced to provide dual-credit programs or advanced classes for students that are more advanced than
