Senior year, freshman year of college, I never thought the day would come for me to write a letter that can help determine my future. I am a sixteen year old senior and come from a single parented family of five, and I have done my best to keep busy and find myself in such a full home. My overall dream job is to become a sports analyst for the NBA. I found my love and passion for basketball my freshman year in high school. However, I quickly discovered I was not the best at playing, but I did not let that stop me. Growing up in a family that is predominantly women, I was always pushed to do better and to not let anything stop you simply because you could not get the hang of something. I know that nothing comes easy in this world and frankly I wouldn’t want anything handed to me. I am willing to start from the bottom, and work my way up. Along the way if I make a mistake I intend to do everything I can to fix it, because I believe I can only learn from my mistakes. There was a time where I felt like I could not do something. My junior year I decided to run track and to join the step team, and those two experiences were a huge lesson in my life. I was overweight, nervous, and insecure, but thanks to the persistence of my two track coaches at Monte Vista they made it possible for me to believe in myself and get better. They taught me that nothing comes easy, and supported me when I needed it the most. I ran the events the 100m and 200m, and needed to increase my speed quickly. With the help of my mother and coaches supporting me to eat healthier and to keep running I lost over twenty pounds and shortened my 200m time by six seconds in a week. Both programs helped me out of my shell and it is a huge accomplishment to me. Not only did it help me lose the weight I was trying to lose, it helped me realize that I can do anything I put my mind to as long as I am willing to work for it. Thinking back now I am glorified to know that I accomplished my goal, which is something I am looking for while applying to colleges. My goal for college is to get into one like this one, one that

The mind is a garden that requires cultivation, and that is why I aspire to attend a liberal arts college. I fervently believe that liberal arts colleges teach people how to think because they require their students to take courses outside of their intended major. I want to be in an environment that pushes me to think conceptually and without censor. For most of my high school career, it has also been my dream to experience life outside of North Carolina. I have ventured out of North Carolina three times, two of which I was accompanied by familiar faces, but last October I was awarded a travel scholarship to visit Brandeis University just outside of Boston.…

High school is one of the major factors in deciding a student’s future after becoming an adult and finding their place in society, however, I believe freshmen year is the most important year in all of high school because so numerous students either fail or do poorly in their classes for that year, which affects them in the future, most colleges track your performance from 9th grade, and your grades in 9th grade will impact your confidence in later years in high school. First of all, during freshman year, students must overcome the plenty of difficult work they are given and get an understanding of how their high school operates, however, if they do not get a complete understanding of their responsibilities, they might slip through the cracks which they will either do poorly or fail which will damage their grades for that year affecting their future. For example, in the article “The Importance of the Ninth Grade on High School Graduation Rates and Student Success” on paragraph 1 it states “During the 9th-grade year, many students for the first time have to earn passing grades in core courses, and these core courses are typically some of the toughest and most rigorous academic classes a student must take in high school… Ninth…

Senior Year My greatest memory so far in my eighteen years of being on this earth is without a doubt my senior year of high school. It was absolutely unforgettable. My senior year as a whole (which was just last year) was the most fun I’ve ever had in my life and the happiest I have ever been. When I was a chubby little freshman with glasses I thought to myself that high school would be one of the longest time periods of my life and that four years would feel like forty years. But man was I wrong, high school went by in the blink of an eye.…

It became easy to justify placing my college education on hold and I utilized every excuse available.
