This was it: senior year of high school. I had become one of the most popular girls in the school and planned to end my high school career with a bang. All I had to do was get through one more year without anyone knowing my secret. I had come this far, surely I could continue with this secret until June, right? I waltzed into my English class, ready for day one. Then, it happened: Dr. Linda Gilliam walked into the room. All the students hated her and I was no exception. She was a tough one! I sank in my chair, I was going to be exposed.
I had no idea that Dr. Gilliam’s class would ignite my passion for education. I was one of the girls who appeared to have everything. I had great socialization skills, but I was terrified of public speaking. Dr. Gilliam was about to alter the course of my life. When the butterflies began to turn in my stomach, she encouraged me by saying, “You’ve got this, Terrie.” By second semester, not only did I develop a love for her class, but I also joined the debate team. Although I come from a family of educators, she inspired me to push past phobia and

I sat in amazement: amazed at the fact that I developed such a strong rapport with the most feared teacher on campus; amazed that I had not missed one day of the class; amazed that I had developed a love for education and yearning to absorb more knowledge to share with so many. Instilled within me was a passion for education—something that I strive to do for all the lives that I touch. I believe that an educator is to be caring, competent, effective and so much more. Additionally, I believe the goal of education is to create confident, self-actualized, independent thinkers and lifelong learners, with the basic skills necessary to become productive members of society. If afforded the opportunity, acceptance into your preeminent institute of higher learning will strengthen my ability to continue in passing on the torch of wisdom,

"Success is the result of perfection, hard work, learning from failure, loyalty and persistence" I have had many ups and downs over the course of my life thus far. One specific example of this took place during my freshman year of high school. When I started high school it was very challenging for me, partially due to the fact that; during this time, I was lazy, unmotivated and did not really take school seriously. This by far is one of my biggest regrets to this day. Who would ever think that not trying during my freshman year would continue to follow me throughout the course of my academic career.…

For the past year, I could only provide an indefinite answer to a frequently asked question, How was your freshman year? In fact, those of us who experienced our freshman year could be addressed as “college veterans” will never initiate a conversation with regard to the past year. Perhaps they consider that the freshman year was not as consummate as they initially planned. I cannot judge my first year in college was successful or frustrating, but I feel I benefited from the meritorious experiences and practical knowledge gained from my college life. In my opinion, no matter what goals one wishes to achieve in college, whether its grade, love, health, or sense of accomplishment, one has to be prepared for both failures and…

In the Spring of last year, it was my Junior year, one of the most critical years in high school. It’s the year that colleges look at the most, also it was the year that I was in some of the most challenging classes. Mostly honors, a lot of homework, and tests to go along with it. Studying would take me until late at night, and even on weekends, all day long. When it’s the end of the term everyone checks their grades for their report cards, and progress reports.…

My freshman year was one of my craziest school year. It came from fake hall passes, to skipping in the restroom, and acting all bad by getting referrals. I remember my ap secretary always used to call me “Diablo” just because i always got in trouble and she said i used to drive her crazy. I just never cared about the consequence of skipping so much, good thing I never got caught. Meeting new friends and new attitudes and a little more of responsibility and to be honest waking up so early every single morning was not that fun.…

The end of the day comes whether you have gotten up to do something productive or if you have simply remained inanimate while time moves around you. I have found that the present slips away while you are worrying about the future. We are constantly telling ourselves that if we just get through this, then everything after will be better. We forget to appreciate the moment while constantly reaching for a hypothetically more fulfilling life. Once we graduate high school, or get through a challenging class, or finish a workout, everything after will get easier.…
