Senior Year: Hard To Keep My Students

Decent Essays
Senior year has caused me to work really hard to keep my scholarship. I've been working and putting my all into all my classes. Especially in my expository writing class, I've been succeeding in my essays and blogs. Mainly because I love writing, it gives me an opportunity to disseminate my ideas and feelings, it allows me to leave behind memories that I would look back on and re-live. Of course I'm just like everyone else and there's places I could personally improve on. Vocabulary isn't really my strong suit, I mostly lean toward using broad words. I need to work on improving my vocabulary. Over all I feel like my participation, attendance and work is showing my full potential. I put 110% into all my work and it seriously pays off in the

On the first day of class, I felt pretty confident about my level of skills as a writer, but little did I know there were a lot of aspects in my writing that could be improved. As time progressed and we learned more about colloquial language and little things I could change in my essays to further advance and improve my writing. Now, I feel even more confident about my writing and know that all of these little changes I can make in my writing create a better flow of ideas and a higher level of formality. I feel that throughout this semester I have been greatly challenged as a writer and have advanced the most that I ever have in writing within such a short period of time. I have put in a lot time and effort into this class in order to create…

Frankly, I do not consider myself as a scholar because I am not at all studious compared to other students, but I will admit that I have become well informed of my weaknesses because of this year’s courses. Fundamental high schools motivate students to attend challenging classes and this is why Godinez was suitable for me; it is only through arduous teaching and workload that I can understand my abilities and strengths. AP classes, for instance, serve to bolster my desire to learn. The most difficult course for me was undoubtedly AP English Language. Writing has never been --and still is not--…

Coming into English 1301 freshman year was something that I was very terrified of. Since I have not attended school in over nineteen years, and high school English class was never my strong point and I found myself continuously irritated and disorganized. I would rush to write essays just to get it over with, using other people’s thoughts and ideas and transforming them into my own about the subject. I under no circumstances connected with any piece that I was asked to write, so enrolling into college to do it all over again was certainly something I dreaded and to some degree wanted to get over with, but now I find myself appreciating writing.…

When asked to write about and describe myself I often have to stop and ask myself how would someone who knows me, describe me to someone who doesn’t know me at all. I feel unique would probably be the most fitting adjective for describing Robert Yamane. I enjoy being challenged and never walk away from a problem that I know I can solve. Puzzles are great examples, but more importantly I want to be challenged in the classroom. Which is a huge reason why I want to attend Punahou.…

Survey Questions: Adjectives Creative- For an example from APULL, I try to avoid essays based off of clichés or other people’s ideas, instead creating essays by thinking about what I got out of the book and the parts that I personally believed were deserving of deeper analysis. Outside of school and writing, I use my creativity in my extracurriculars; I am an excellent French Horn player and have achieved the rank of Honor Thespian for my commitment and contributions to the theatre program here at Edina, bringing my love of dance and experience on the Hip Hop Dance Team to help choreograph many of the dance numbers seen this year in In The Heights. I also love drawing and crafting things out of paper and whatever other materials I have available,…

Upon my entry into English 1010-02, my first college writing class, I expected to breeze through the course with an easy-A and minimal effort after my successful completion of AP English 11 this past year. I began the year with the utmost confidence in my writing abilities, and believed that my skills were above par. It wasn’t until I received my score on the essay evaluation for my First-Week Essay- a measly five out of twenty- that I realized that this was not the case. At first, I was astonished that my seemingly exceptional writing skills had not earned me the A that I believed I deserved. However, as time went on I came to the realization that I had not put in nearly enough time or effort into the paper to receive more than a C at most.…

However, when I walked in the classroom and saw my old high school classmates Jace and Lauren, I became a bit more comfortable. I was also relieved to discover that the class was very small and the teacher was not scary at all, unlike my prior belief.…

This semester, my writing, editing, problem solving, organization, comprehension, and communication skills as an English 20-1 student have improved. Some of the challenges that I’ve faced as a writer were starting an essay, trying to incorporate academic vocabulary, and putting details into my work. The essay question we received for Macbeth was extremely challenging. After mulling over the question and still not understanding what it was asking, I solved my problem by dissecting it into pieces and determining what each piece meant, changing words or phrases as I went into terms that I could easily understand. I discovered that my vocabulary is lacking sophisticated and descriptive words.…

I’ve chosen to focus on “Exploration and Argumentation” as the subject of this reflective introduction, specifically looking at my argument paper, “Abortion: Right or Wrong?” as a reference to the importance of this learning outcome. I chose to focus on this particular learning outcome because it was the most difficult essay for me to create. While writing this essay it was difficult for me to understand and reciprocate the opposing viewpoint. Understanding an unfamiliar idea and giving ideas for or against a topic is key to creating a fluent argumentative essay.…

From the Mesopotamian civilization to the present day civilization, writing has taken a place of importance in our daily lives; something I have always struggled with. Through school the most difficult subject that I have always struggled with is English. Growing up my first language was Spanish due to the fact that my parents do know much English. My parents were never able to read to me in English preventing me from hearing and seeing the English language; it was not until I entered elementary school that I was exposed to English. This has contributed to my difficulties in English courses throughout my education.…
