Senior Year Expectations

Decent Essays
It's been almost 4 months into my Senior year and I can almost feel the pressure building upon my shoulders; realizing now that I have accomplished many grades to come up to this final grade, I find myself standing in a position where everything and all the things that I do throughout this year must be impeccable.

Knowing that I am sprouting, my responsibilities and capabilities of accomplishing academic levels have been more than overwhelming, every single day I push my self to complete assignments for certain classes I am enrolled in, turn in due date work and make sure that work is almost to it's finest needs, but even that has not provided enough energy for me to quit. I feel that each day I'm growing stronger and stronger through

Right now, October 2017, about six weeks into sophomore year, and I feel like I’m under a massive amount of stress. College tends to be the topic up for discussion, so my parents expect me to have B+’s and higher in the grade book. Also, my grandfather’s were both in band, so a requirement for me is to learn and memorize four pages of music, then learn another three pages for All Region and re-auditions in the middle of November, and remember about fortyseven spots on the football field. Feeling the pressure by parents and friends to accomplish multiple different tasks can be extremely overwhelming. A large amount of people around the world know and understand the fear, stress, and idea of trying to succeed at many objectives at one time that…

At the beginning of the year, Professor Fama told the Pre-Calculus class that our senior year would go by more quickly than any other year of our lives. I think now every member of the class of 2017 can attest to just how true this statement was. I know it sounds cliché, but it really does seem like just yesterday we were organizing homecoming, planning our senior trip, fund raising for our senior trip, finally going on our senior trip, decorating for prom, and enjoying our last Crusader Day, or, as we like to call it, Crudader Day. While it is the fun memories like those I just mentioned that tend to stick out in our minds, I think it is important that we also acknowledge the stuff that maybe wasn't so fun; the days we were swamped with homework, cramming for tests, finishing projects at the last minute, the time spent in classes that maybe weren't our favorite, the stress and hard work that went into planning some of our excursions, and all the other frustrations that tested us throughout the year. Whether we realized it in the moment or not, these struggles we faced were teaching us lessons just as valuable as what we were learning in academic classes; lessons about leadership, perseverance, the value of hard work, and, perhaps most importantly, teamwork.…

Reflecting on the past long, but yet short four years of high school, I cannot help but be exhilarated for the next four to come. I can remember the first day that I walked into the JROTC room like it was just yesterday, butterflies floating in my stomach, my nerves everywhere with a smile on my face because I knew that is where I belong. As time went I took advantage of the program by joining the Armed Drill team as another cadet. Within one year of hard work and innumerable amount of practice I became a squad leader following up to be the first female commander of the Armed Drill team that Sam Houston High has seen. With the proficiency that JROTC has taught me, I decided that it was time to seek out my dream by talking to a recruiter.…

Existentialism As we come to the final stretch of senior year, all of adulthood and life’s responsibilities have finally come to surface. Nobody said it was easy and i now know what they were talking about. Although senior year was a breeze for the most part, here comes the hard part. Going into my senior year of highschool I was prepared for the workload of college work. The process was very simple and written out for me making most of the things easy for me. I learned a lot from meeting with college representatives and figuring out what they’re all about. I had opportunities to ask colleges things that weren't on their websites and that really benefited me. So far I’ve been accepted to one college and waiting to hear back from all my others.…

During Sophomore year in highschool you continually hear from teachers “Junior year will be the most academically challenging year in highschool”. This then causes many incoming Juniors to panic and often stress more than truly necessary. Panic and stress then spreads like an epidemic with no cure in sight, despite this seemingly hopeless situation, author Jay Mathews wrote an article to give 11th graders good advice and some much needed support. The use of diction in this article is extremely prevalent to its effectiveness since it’s target audience is going to be high schoolers who don’t quite understand “large words” or metaphors referencing things from the 1980’s.…

Senior year is an important milestone in your life. Deciding what you want to do for the next four years is a daunting task, but choosing the right career path does not have to be difficult. If you are undecided about what degree program is right for you, I recommend a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts. You may ask, “What can I do with a Liberal Arts degree?” According to the BLS Occupational Outlook Handbook, a degree in Liberal Arts offers students greater flexibility to explore different academic disciplines; design a curriculum that reflects your interests and talents, and develop marketable job skills (US Bureau of Labor Statistics).…

I have learned and grown so much in my high school years, gained knowledge, and made new friends. Senior Year Challenges

Senior year is arguably the most challenging year for a high school student. Not only do seniors have to balance academics and extracurriculars, they also have to incorporate completing college applications, applying for financial aid, taking standardized tests, and deciding what they want to pursue as a career. The most significant challenge I’ve faced is trying to balance all those activities. I know I could've gotten ahead and started my application once it opened, because I would've had more time to plan what colleges I was interested in, but I didn’t. October has just started and so have I on the applications.…

“I don't know where I'm going from here, but I promise it won't be boring” -David Bowie. Before experiencing Junior year, I did not know what I was to expect, but I did know it was going to be one of the most overwhelming and stressful years of my life. Now, having endured through the stress myself, I can definitely say I am not the same person I was the start of September of 2016. Treading through the challenging demands of this year, alongside the troubles of my mental health, has shaped me into a more independent person who is unaware what the future holds but takes responsibility for the tasks I am given. This year was a year of pushing my limits.…

High school is an up and down battle for a student. Being involved can sometimes be challenging between managing grades, family or social relationships, and extracurricular activities. In addition to this, senior year can especially be a stress filled year considering the life-altering decisions adults pressure students into. Yet, I have made it my mission to find a way to balance school, life, and staying involved. If I were not to push myself beyond just simply showing up at school I would never be as successful as I am today.…
