Senior Trip

Memories are amazing things to cherish, and those are what I am hoping to gain on our school trip to Memphis and Nashville, Tennessee in March 2017. This trip is a couple months before I graduate and having this memory to remember all of my life, would be nothing less of spectacular. I can see myself sharing stories of what I did and what I got to experience on this trip to my own kids one day, hoping they get to enjoy something like this as much as I would. I am hoping this trip also helps me gain confidence and leadership. Being a senior, a lot of underclassmen look up to you. I need to lead by example and show them that these kind of trips can be fun, but they should also be respectful to others and our chaperones. It will be a good

One experience that shaped my character as a person was my part-time job in high school. I worked as tour guide in San Francisco’s Chinatown. Being a tour guide pushes a person to be open minded and curious about other people. I remember having a tour group from New York City, and we had a great conversation when we were comparing our respective Chinatowns. The conversation had me continuously think of questions and reply to their question with an answer to the best of my ability.…

On the surface I think I am like most students: I take university seriously, I have my own visions for the future that I am determined to make happen, and I do not expect anyone to lead my way. What makes me different from the rest of the crowd though is how I love to take part organizing something for the greater good. During my school years, I have joined several school organizations which has taught me how to work well in team and how to work under pressure. Previous experience has also given me a considerable amount of confidence in my interpersonal communication skills. I look forward to putting this skills and experiences in this Peace tour as a leader.…

“I have to go here, dad. I just have to,” I told my father during our first tour of Colorado Mesa University’s campus. “I already feel like a Maverick,” I admitted as I straightened out my new CMU ball cap from the campus bookstore. It was a strange feeling knowing that I would no longer be Lakeland High School’s most spirited student, but there was excitement in knowing that I would soon show my pride for Colorado Mesa. Images of my blue and white spirit wear quickly changed to be maroon and gold.…

My hopes for the Freshman Retreat aren’t much. I wish to connect with the people in my advisory, make new friends become acquainted with more people in my grade. I have had a few friends over the past few weeks, but I would say that we aren’t good enough friends to be considered best friends yet. The best way to really get to know people is to live with them for a few days. That way, you share everything together and become better friends as a result.…

Walter Kern’s absurd idea of a total removal of senior year is not only impractical, but also detrimental to a student's education. Senior year is seen by Kern as a waste of time and money, when in fact it is the greatest possible use of time and money. 12th grade is a free year of education which is a necessity for underprivileged students. Simply shipping off 11th graders to college without any money is not good for anyone. Senior year is a stepping stone to college as it allows you to experiment with more freedom before diving headfirst into college.…

When my school leaves for any sort of trip, they always remind everyone that we are representing our school. From the minute we leave the parking lot to the point of returning, the face of the school is us. Every student now holds the obligation of representing our school with their best actions. Studying abroad is the vaguely similar situation; for the exception that we carry more incredibly important responsibilities from across the globe. Contrasting in importance, instead of going on a field trip, I would be leaving the country.…
