Looking back I was a clueless kid walking into a new world, I started high school. shooting blind. having no idea what was to become of me. Or what I wanted to do in life. Freshman year was a wake up call to get myself together and figure who I am in this world and what I can bring to it. I unfortunately did not get the message or at least I did not take note of what was needed from me. I didn’t treat my first year of high school with the utmost of importance, I slacked off, treated it as if it were just another phase of school I had to put myself through, obviously one of the worst mistakes of my life, but this was merely a step back, something that I can come back from and learn from to better myself in the future., because of this I grew a great deal my freshman year, I gained a sense of professionalism in ninth grade, I noticed that I was incredibly irresponsible and unprofessional with my work and in the class, but what I lacked in work habits I made up for in communication skills, My freshman year was full of group projects. These assignments forced me to break out of my shell and communicate with people in my group to accomplish a similar goal. A particular …show more content…
Junior year had given me and as well as everyone else in my graduating class a taste of the real world and a lesson, that not everything is going to go your way whether you like it or not. My classes played a big role here, The classes that exposed me to the world where American Literature, United States history, and Model United Nations had all given assignments and lessons about what goes on in the world and the roles that we play in it. In my American Literature class we were tasked with several assignments that made us look at the world and history through the perspectives of others, one particular assignment was our american dream interview, we were tasked with interviewing someone we believe has a unique perspective of the “american dream”, I decided to interview my father because he witnessed the Cesar Chavez movement. My father told me about that time in his life and how it was a struggle just to get by, and how he faced so much rescued from people against the movement even though he wasn’t involved with the protests and how he had a different opinion of the movement, see my father was an immigrant worker who came to the United States to work for a

This was the year that allowed to discover that although I wanted to pull my hair out maybe a good 100 times, my class taught me that there is no better thing in life than making others happy and having the ability to surround yourself with those smiles. A Hero's Journey The last month of summer before my junior year started was occupied with pondering and wondering what I wanted to accomplish during the upcoming school year. Starting high school is an overwhelming feeling as it’s the last four years of schooling where it was time to look at my strengths and weaknesses in order not to fail. I never really thought that hanging out with friends would change my focus on school. Although I had every intention to pass all my classes, peer pressure got to me to where school wasn’t important anymore. I wasn’t an A straight student nor was I good at sports, but I never intended to fail any courses. Even though I didn’t pass all my classes, it was the fact that when I failed them, it was my parent’s disappointment where I truly felt like a failure.…

Before I begin this essay I would like to thank Dr. Glenn Brasher, a history professor here at the Capstone, for increasing my knowledge and allowing me to develop more perceptions about life. This acknowledgment to Dr. Brasher is very crucial; because it will help you understand how my inspiration has allowed me to persevere in life. Even though this year has just begun, 2017 has been one of the most eventful and unyielding years since I was in Kindergarten watching the Twin Towers collapse. In 2001, that event created a hole in our nation’s economy, enforced new policies that weren’t fair to all American citizens, and it even led to distrust in our county. As this year slowly unfolds it is revealing how those same affects are taking a…

High school changes people. They express themselves, become opinionated, and they start to look at the world differently as they experience things they have never encountered before. A wise Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.” This quote is an excellent way to describe my experience in high school.…

I didn’t not know what I was expecting. On the first day of high school, I stepped into a crowd of students, waiting to enter the building that would become my second home for the next four years. I didn’ not know where I would stand among these highly accomplished individuals, or if I would even amount to the standards set before me. Self-doubt began to fester inside of me as soon as I stepped through the front doors. I expected less and less of myself as time went on.…

Greetings, Class of 2023. Today, we get to celebrate the culmination of our thirteen years of hard work in school with graduation, and I have been asked to deliver this year’s commencement speech. I would like to thank all of the people that have brought us here: family members, teachers, principals, and people who would go out of their way to encourage us to keep trying hard even in the midst of failure. Without you, we would not be standing on this stage today. I would like to start by defining the word “commencement.”…
