Senior Project: Why I Do Something With Construction

Decent Essays
At first I wasn’t sure what I would do my senior project on. I went through choice and choice and after not being able to go to 2 of my choices I decided I really want to do something with construction. So I asked my counselor and he asked me what I would really be interested in, something I would like to do besides my 24/7 hobby of singing. So I told him I want to try and do something with construction. A few problems I ran into during search for a project/interest of mine was, too much thinking, talking about many things to do but none seemed as interesting as I thought they would be. I met with my mentor and talked a bit about this and finally I decided construction is something I would want to do my senior project on.

As the senior project comes to an end, I am truly excited about the benefit my influence has had on the community. My senior project was just another step to the legacy that I have implemented in Warren County. Thinking back to freshman year, senior project seemed so boring and far away. Since the first day, time has been flying really fast. Starting a fresh new day, meeting the same teachers and same old friends, I still cannot imagine that I am now a senior! In my senior year, there will definitely be a lot of challenges and obstacles for me to conquer, but I believe that as long as I do everything step by step, I can beat down the difficulties in this senior year. When I was in junior year, I often heard last year’s seniors told me how hard is it to come up with a senior project topic, and they kept on reminding me to start thinking of my topic and finding my mentors. Luckily, I had research method class last year, so I knew how to do my APA style references and I had many presentations experiences last year.…

The last time I answered this question was the first time I considered that the construction industry had impacted my life and I looked at it quite superficially. I remembered growing up walking through offices or warehouses, seeing pictures of my dad breaking ground on new jobs, and listening to his excitement as we drove by what looked to me like another large building that he excitedly told me his company had built. But aside from the things that I saw as a child, the construction industry has impacted my life in more ways than I ever realized. The construction industry accounted for the entirety of my family’s income for almost all of my life.…

Well it is certain that all branches of engineering must have a proficient understanding of math, science and technology in order to succeed (Georgia Tech, “What is Engineering”). Civil engineers however must be able to take the knowledge from these three areas and apply to create or enhance public works. A public work is nearly every type of transportation and transportation center, including space stations and jets, as well as dams, waterways, bridges and most buildings (ASCE, “What is Civil Engineering?’).
