Senior Project Reflection

My best experience of TOHS is participating in class. The worst experience is feeling a bit overwhelmed in class. The presentation is one of the experiences that high school has changed for me. If there is one thing I would change my senior year is the I would be participating in another school club. My advice for the future seniors is to listen to the teachers more carefully.

The only class in high school that made me feel unexpected and not anticipated was the 11th grade English Literature class. The school club I participated was the Autism Awareness club because the members have fun with students who are born with autism. On June 9th I will feel more confident, be more focused and directed, and take

It didn’t help that I was also participating in a new program for the school and only a small amount of people were joining. The 21st Century Program was supposed to introduce a technology based learning environment. I wasn’t sure if the program was going to help improve my literacy skills or make them worse, but I had to take the risk and find out the results. The first day of school always made me feel as if I had butterflies in my stomach, dying a little bit on the inside not knowing how my year was going to go. Entering English class, the sight of the teacher, a few students already in their seats, I sat in the desk nearest to the teacher, she seemed kind, sharing a big smile as more students arrived.…

From middle school to high school, band became a vital part of my life. It was all I knew, it was where I felt comfortable, and this was where I pratically began learning about my leadership skills. However, my curiousity grew when I was introduced to Class Council. I thought that there was no difference, and I naively thought that since I have been a part of a leadership role for about 4 years, everyone knows me, so I thought Class Council could not be so hard. I was terribly wrong.…

Throughout high school, I have been involved in many activities. I started off with the STEM academy in my high school. In the STEM academy, we held special events that teach people, especially kids, about new experiments and science-related careers. I helped out the STEM academy by explaining people about the experiments, the purpose behind the experiments and cleaned or organized lab equipment. I was a part of the STEM academy for approximately three years in high school and I really enjoyed it because I knew I could make a difference in my community.…

Obstacles I also had to overcome were with the inner feelings I overcame from situations put in my life. Feelings that gave me lack of motivation and kept me from giving the attention this senior project deserved. Looking back on those situations, I wish they guided me to do better and use them as a motivation. All the time and energy that didn’t go into this project until last minute caused me re-evaluate me as a student and person. As a student I realized bad habits I’ve possessed for so long need to change for me to be successful in the upcoming future.…

I wasn’t really excited about any of these courses and so I just looked forward to P.E and recess. I didn’t really have anyone to hang out with so I explored the campus of my new school. My classmates made it pretty well that they had their own group and while some weren’t completely closed off, they weren’t inviting either. I found a great place which had perfect shade from trees and monkey bar by it. This was my spot to eat lunch.…

I’ve experienced many hardships when dealing with writing assignments, but the worst would have to be my Senior Portfolio. After starting the assignment, I learned very quickly that the assignment was going to be the easy compared to gathering all the information needed about myself. I was required to create multiple different essays that consisted of my post-high school plan and a reflective essay. It seemed easy to write essays on myself, but until I was required to write it all down, I never realized how many experiences contribute into making me who I am today. Even though I find it as the most challenging writing assignment, I also see it as the best learning experience to show who I am and how I plan my future.…

Throughout working on this project, I have learned a huge amount of new information that I didn’t think that I would learn. I can honestly say that I am glad that I chose such a broad subject for my senior project because it allowed me to learn all kinds of different things from different aspects of the subject. Through picking what my actual project is about, writing my research paper, to creating a product and to writing this letter now, this project has let me learn new things that I will be able to teach others about. When beginning this project, being a new concept, I was worried that it would be very difficult and stressful. Given the time that we have had, I was able to spread out all the work and get each aspect of the project finished one-by-one in a non stressful manner.…

I have learned so much about myself and families during this project. Coming from a small town, I was not exposed to many of the experiences that I had during this project. I also learned that I had many unknown stereotypes of what I thought families should look like. Throughout this project and this course I have changed my perspective on many topics and my plans as a future teacher.…

Maquoketa, upon my initial impression when I moved here in 2012, was a small quiet town and although that is something that I now I know it is also so much more. I was in middle-school when I first came but it was in high school that I truly grew to appreciate the wonderful community. My first year of high school was certainly unnerving, although I had previously attended an elementary and middle school that were more than double its size it still held an allure of suspense over what may soon come.…

None the less I came into it with an open mind about the subject of the class.…

The grow your skills and to gain a better understanding of yourself as a teacher, reflection is essential. Reflection allows teachers, to look back at lessons, weeks, terms or even years and view what went right and what went wrong thus allowing teachers to start to think critically about what is best for them moving forward. Reflection is crucial to the success of a student teacher, as without it they will struggle to grow, recognise their mistakes and adjust their methods in the future. When reflecting on my own placement and in particular on the above lesson, I have learnt a lot about myself and what I need to do to become a quality teacher.…
