Senior Project Analysis

I wasn't sure at all of what I wanted to do for my senior project at the beginning of the school year but I knew i had to figure it out quick. The only thing i knew is that i wanted it to involve kids. At first I was hoping to volunteer with special needs kids at the Swindells Resource Center through providence. That unfortunately was not going to be possible because of scheduling issues. I was still hoping to be able to volunteer with kids, preferably of younger ages. I wanted to work with kids because wanted to learn about their development and whether I could see myself working with kids in the future. I heard of volunteering at Kids Unlimited through a friend and decided that it would be a perfect fit for me. As I was planning my project I had to think about what age group i wanted volunteer with and figure out a schedule that worked for both Kids …show more content…
At first it was hard getting them to be comfortable around me but everyday that went by they began to come around. I often times play with them outside while they're at recess and watch that they don't get hurt. I also help them with homework they might have or just talk to them about their day. I've really come to enjoy spending time with these kids and getting to know their personalities and how they behave. I haven't made any changes to my project yet and I hope I don't have to. One of the difficulties I had was getting the kids to be comfortable around me and be able to talk to me. They were really shy and reluctant to really come up to me but now when i get there they run up to say high and that's a big accomplishment. At one point there was the difficulty of actually getting accepted into volunteering there. For a minute i thought it wasn't going to be possible but i'm glad i went in there to check up on my application and move things forward. I was successful in that it works perfectly with my schedule and it's something i really enjoy

When I had to pick a project I had to keep a few things in mind like who do I do it for and what will it be. After thinking I realized I wanted to do something for the Lynchburg Elementary School, because they always help the scouts in the past so I wanted to do something nice for them. From there I had to figure out what I was going to do so that I could have it all approved by the school system. After a few days I finally figured out what I would like to do, I wanted to make a pavilion…

According to Jane McCarthy graduate of University of Nevada she states, “Indigenous peoples are spoken for, not spoken with, in regard to their dreams for the education of their children” (p. 123). Jane McCarthy and Helene Johnson tell about their experiences as an outside teacher teaching on the Navajo Nation. The schools on native nations need to ask what the outstanding educational pedagogies are for the native students and how to implement those practices into the classroom instruction. The Accelerated School Project makes changes to the school curriculum, instruction, and organization which the Navajo Nation School didn’t do so well due to the disconnection with mainstream schools. The Native communities need to come together as a culture…

Volunteering at Veterans Affairs Medical Center was one of the greatest experience I've ever had. Sitting down with the elderly and getting to know them, I noticed if more teens could actually sit down and take the time to talk to an elderly person they could gain an opulent amount of knowledge. Sitting down and getting to talk an innumerable amount of veterans as I could, I was intrigued by how each person had a story of their own going through WWII. Voluntarily, I was able to contribute to the organization by having open conversations with the veterans, providing beverages, and having a great time. It wasn't till the end of the program when my perception began to change about the organization I volunteered for, it's more than just about kids…

I always feel great about volunteering. One of my favorite memories is when on of the moms used to always thank me for watching her little son Elijah. She was so kind to me, she did not have to be kind. She was going through a lot, and she took her time to be kind and have conversations with me. I have not seen her for a long time, but I remember her appreciation.…

Throughout high school, I have been involved in many activities. I started off with the STEM academy in my high school. In the STEM academy, we held special events that teach people, especially kids, about new experiments and science-related careers. I helped out the STEM academy by explaining people about the experiments, the purpose behind the experiments and cleaned or organized lab equipment. I was a part of the STEM academy for approximately three years in high school and I really enjoyed it because I knew I could make a difference in my community.…

Service is something that is near and dear to my heart, and this trip was no exception. My FYS group and I went to a local non for profit Atlas (Attaining Truth, Love, And Self-control) to do projects they needed done. This organization works with troubled people who need a mentor or a shoulder to lean on. Because they are a non for profit and are very busy, the people on pay roll didn’t have the time to do yard work or extra jobs around the building.…

The aftermath of hurricane Sandy was horrific, however it was also followed by a huge amount of social responsible acts that influenced my life indefinitely. In October of 2012 my community was directly hit by hurricane Sandy which resulted in extreme flooding, fires and wind damage that left a tremendous amount of damage, including concrete sidewalks and streets in rubble; there were holes with half or entire truck’s or car’s buried inside of them. The flood was so bad that we were trapped inside until the water eventually drained into the sewer systems. When the storm and the water surpassed, people panicked; with no phone services, television or radio no one knew how long we would be without resources. Many people broke into flooded stores to get water, canned foods and any undamaged supplies…

As the senior project comes to an end, I am truly excited about the benefit my influence has had on the community. My senior project was just another step to the legacy that I have implemented in Warren County. Thinking back to freshman year, senior project seemed so boring and far away. I never would have imagined the progress and success I've had with my senior project. My interest has stayed the same but I wouldn't think that I would have County Commissioners and a House of Representative present at my event.…

To function as a community, people must collaborate and work together. As a member of society, I find it is very important to help the less fortunate in the community and do everything possible to advance ourselves as well as others. The finest citizens in a community value helping others over helping themselves. To me, the National Honor Society is made up of people who share these values with me. My first experience with community service came when I was just at the age of 9.…

The summer before my senior year of high school, I volunteered at Centennial Hills Hospital. I was the only teenager who met the criteria for this summer program, and was the only one to complete the program. This summer program involved me working in different departments around the hospital. My jobs included stocking the ER, supplying snacks for new mothers, admitting people for surgery and appointments, cleaning gurneys, visiting each patient, and providing information to visitors at the front desk. All of these jobs were accomplished four hours a day, three days a week.…

Design thinking is a group process of identifying problems, empathizing, and coming up with innovative solutions for a user. Within our challenge, we had very few limitations, one being that our solution could be done within a $500 budget. For our Design Thinking project, our group originally decided to examine campus safety through the eyes of other students, and empathize with them in hopes of creating a solution to their problem. By interviewing people who had concerns with issues regarding campus safety, I was able to gain some useful insight that enabled me to establish a level of empathy with the interviewees. From listening to their experiences and concerns, it is evident that there is a need for more lighting on campus.…
