Decent Essays
As a senior level college student this will be my fifth year in college. I have successfully completed over 20 units of on-line distance classes prior to this fall semester and I will continue to take more distance classes in the spring of 2018. With over 2 years of being enrolled in distance classes before I have had to overcome many challenges to be successful. The initial challenge I faced was learning how to navigate class websites and submit homework. However, this was easily overcome as I quickly began to learn the intricacies that accompany our blackboard classes. Thus, the obvious difficult challenges I had to overcome was assignment deadlines, self-discipline, and time management. Addressing all of these

As the season of fall approaches here at Texas A&M University Corpus Christi, I have reached the middle of my fall semester as a freshmen college student. Midterms are approaching and I am pulling my hair out due to the sleepless nights and long hours of studying for midterms. There are some students are planning activities for Halloween while I on the other hand am preparing my study guide for my Microeconomic midterm. The closest to a break I would have from school would be Thanksgiving break, and during the break I would return home and begin working for my family. All the stress I am feeling about school could be due to my unorganized school schedule and responsibility of renting an apartment.…

Going to school has been and continues to be a rewarding part of my life as I’ve been able to study and learn in different settings, take part in extracurricular activities and discover what my likes and dislikes are pertaining to school. To this day, I’ve taken two different approaches to obtaining my High School Diploma. Most of my school has been completed in a classroom where there was a teacher teaching as well as students attending at the same time and place. With E-learning, there is a teacher, but all of the material is online where I can learn in the comfort of my home. In a classroom setting, there are set schedules and strict deadlines, alternately with online learning, I’ve been able to learn and complete tasks at my pace.…

Upon beginning college, a common concern running through many young adolescents’ mind is the stigma of the ‘Freshman Fifteen’. You are constantly under the impression that the college diet consists of ramen noodles, pizza, and booze. Veggies, grains, and fruit are impossible. Life in college is already expensive, so how on earth would it be possible to eat in a more healthy manner than this? This stereotype especially weighed heavily on my mind going into college, as my weight has always been something I’ve been concerned with throughout my life.…

As I look back on my middle school to high school years and try to decide what kind of writer I am, how well I can interpret and analyze other writings and text, and how easy it is for me to research and compose a well developed paper I believe I am at the level of English 100. From recent years, especially high school, I have learned what kind of writer I am and what techniques work best for me. When it comes to writing papers I have written a fare share, from research expository writings to persuasive writing. This year in particular the senior class is working on our senior papers which is a big research paper, the main goal is to teach us how to find information in large quantities on a subject of choice and insert that information into…

My journey to victory is getting into a four year college. The type of college I would want to get into being, a college that is easy to get around to, to explore different organizations, to be able to have a wide variety of food on campus and off campus and lastly to have a good quality of education. A second victory would be getting a degree from a four year university. I have had many people who have been a great help in achieving my victory. Each semester that I had at Schoolcraft College I would meet with Chris Richardson to evaluate where I’m at in my career path and to discuss classes to take for the next semester.…

In Gills main points he writes about how people are not learning effectively during their schooling. I agree with what the author is writing about, that the education system has been cultured in ways that may not be particularly realistic. People in school often worry more about the grade than actually retaining the information given to them. I think this is more of a problem now, seeing as assignment and test are put online to complete and the answers are easily accessed through the textbook or the web. People have adapted to relying on technology so much which leads to loss of creativity.…

The income of the family that the student belongs is highly significant to the performance of the student at school. Students who are on the bottom of the income quartile tend to be less successful and productive in school, and have a higher rate of dropping out from high school and not continue their education at a college. They also have a higher change in engaging with the criminal justice system. It is shown that the low-income children are the students who need the most help. Thus, to close the gap of learning, more help and opportunities should be offered to the low-income children to help them succeed in school.…

In today’s day and age, the college experience is a topic that is brought up in many conversations, especially with high political figures. From 1985 until 2011, the cost of a college education has increased by nearly 500%, with the consumer price index only increasing by 115% (Maurer, 2013). It does not take a much to understand that a number such as that is unacceptable. The cost of college has skyrocketed out of control, leaving graduating students with thousands of dollars’ worth of debt before they even start their lives on their own.
