When Neil Armstrong landed on the moon he spoke the iconic line “one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.” Sending people to Mars would produce the same reaction. It would be mankind’s next leap, maybe even the greatest leap of all time. If landing astronauts on Mars was achieved it would be quite a feat, but taking this leap isn’t the only reason why we should get people to the red planet. Sending humans to Mars is critical because life could be discovered; the quality of life on Earth could improve, and the human race has a greater chance of survival.
NASA has a plan to send humans to Mars by the mid 2030s. Rovers and satellites are already roaming the red planet in search of life, or evidence of life, but so far have come up with nothing. If people are ever sent to Mars, their primary mission would likely be to discover life. Discovering life on Mars is essential to learning more about life here on Earth. If life is discovered many questions would be asked, one being ‘is it related to us?’ Was life introduced to one planet because of the other, or were both planets developing life individually? It would take six months to take human beings to Mars, and in that time new automation would be necessary to ensure the survival and security of the astronauts. Many everyday items have been created by NASA, like prosthetic limbs, solar panels, cordless tools, and memory foam, among many other things. In order to send people to Mars and keep them safe on the journeys to and fro, technologies would be invented that may be repurposed to make life here on Earth a little easier as
