The Roman Empire began when Augustus Caesar became the first emperor with 2 triumvirates: Pompey and Crassus. This civilization was balanced. Rome had three types of government including monarchy, aristocracy, and democracy. All of these governments united in Rome. The Roman Empire also had senates. A senate is a body of legislators chosen from a group of elite families. The main job was to set the policy for the consuls. Rome was divided into 2 broad classes: Patricians and Plebeians. Patricians were small groups of aristocratic families and Plebeians were basically everybody else. The consuls worked with the senates. The senates would choose 2 consuls to serve as chief executives of Rome. There needed to be 2 so they could check on each
