Sen. Pacquiao's Arguments Against Capital Punishment

I strongly opposed the reimposement of the capital (death) punishment for any kind of action, including the compelling reasons involving heinous crimes. Thus, I don’t have even a little sense of agreement to the claims of Sen. Pacquiao. In his claim about Jesus being punished by the government with death penalty, I can say that the process on how Jesus was sentenced was a manifestation of an unjust and unruly system; a Mob rule. I think that the action of God, allowing Christ to be condemned to death (through crucifixion) by the government is God’s own master plan to show how much He wants to save Humanity and not to show that the government allows capital punishment. Also, people don’t have the same ability as Christ to ascend or be resurrected;

    As Juliano concludes in his article “Why Capital Punishment is No Punishment at All” he supports his claim by providing evidence that the Court itself “consistently affirmed the constitutionality of death penalty” (207-08). The Court interpreted that in order to satisfy the value of an individual, death penalty “cannot be so totally without penological justification that it results in the gratuitous infliction of suffering” (183). Basically, even if death penalty is a legitimate form of punishment it lacks the justified used of it. Society supported death penalty no doubt about it; however, to what extent death penalty was justifiable is questionable? As evidence for this claim, the Court didn’t detect any complication with this practice until the realization that innocent convicts had been hanged at the cost of lawbreakers.…

    Bright’s arguments against capital punishment include: states that sentence people to death, capital punishment does not serve a purpose, and civilized societies do not engage in such activities. Beginning with states that sentence people to death, it is based on things like mistaken eyewitness identifications, false confessions, failure of turnover evidence, and more (CITATION). This happens in many cases but some people are sentenced to death instead of life imprisonment with parole. However, this happens because of the incompetence of their court-appointed lawyers, their race, or the race of their victim (CITATION). The next argument, is capital punishment does not serve a purpose.…

Bedau expresses his opinion that the death penalty is the form of human brutality and stupidity that goes against human dignity. Claiming that the death penalty is ineffective way to deter future offenses. Bedau also argues that the government uses death penalty in hopes of bringing fear to individuals and by displaying superior power that their fate lies in their hands. Deterrence is an act that influences people to not do something, creating fear and thus reducing crimes. Many of us are convinced when a particular punishment receives severe consequences that it will deter behavior from reacquiring.…

    In this article, three authors explain their opinion starting with David Gushee, the director of the Center for Theology and Public life at Mercer University. He presents scriptural evidence to supporting Christians being both pro-life and pro-death penalty, determining that the death penalty against murderers does prevent murders. Second, Richard Land, president of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, concedes capital punishment is ethical if carried out by civil magistrates against evildoers. Third, Glen Stassen, professor of Christian ethics at Fuller Theological Seminary and coauthor with David Gushee of Kingdom Ethics: Following Jesus in Contemporary Context, opposes the death penalty, considering capital punishment revenge. Consequently, his argument is too narrowly focused, and I will suggest considering the death penalty justice instead of revenge in order to refute his…

    A potential blockbuster fight between Manny Pacquiao and Amir Khan is reportedly “almost certain” to happen in the first or second quarter of next year as Top Rank chief Bob Arum begins to run his machinery in order to setup a meeting between the two well-known fighters. Bleacher Report indicated that Arum’s initial plan is to stage it in the Middle East, but not in Dubai. If it does not work out, then the bout will be held in Las Vegas, Arum said. The 28-year-old Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) had been clamoring for a mega-fight with pay-per-view king Floyd Mayweather Jr. for two years now and with the latter choosing former two-time world champion Andre Berto for his supposed to be final fight on September 12, the Bolton native missed on the opportunity again.…
