Ruth remembers the day she took her daughter, Becky to local Wic office for formula checks, etc. Donald later got call at Music store he’d been working at to come to hospital locally in Inner City. There was investigation opened concerning injuries Becky had received. Both Ruth and Donald realized they had made mistake of trusting the care of their child to others. Becky had received various injuries on different occasions after picking up Becky from sitters. They had explained what they discovered to investigators, etc. Courts would eventually place Becky in foster care until Ruth and Donald went through family counseling, etc. It seems courts were faulting them for being negligent in not thoroughly checking out couple whom they had trust …show more content…
Joe and Denise Hoffman, whom had been Becky’s foster parents throughout the process would adopted Becky shortly thereafter and renaming her Anna Becky Hoffman. Walking from courtroom Ruth collapsed, emotions bottled up inside her. Her daughter, her firstborn was gone. Donald held her close to him as tears streamed down his face and he tried to reassure her that somehow they would get through it. They had lost biggest battle of their entire lives. They had lost the fight and given it all. No parents wanted to face having their child taken from them. Everything they stood for, their stand for God, their beliefs was attacked and devil thought he had won.

Four months later on September 21, 2007, their second child, Carl Thomas Semmes was born. It was joyful occasion for Donald and Ruth to have second chance to raise a child of their very own. Heartache and pain of losing Becky was still there, Donald and Ruth remember leaving the hospital, Ruth in wheelchair holding her newborn son and Donald walking beside her.
