Semester Test As the only sophomore in a class of many juniors and seniors, I felt as if my past writing approach was premature compared to my classmates. To succeed I thought I needed to stick to the rules when writing introduction paragraphs, body paragraphs, and conclusions, which made writing papers not very fun. While participating in this class, though, I realized that my style of writing was not to stick to the basics; my style of writing was my personality! I found that putting feelings into the essays and papers I wrote helped me write a much more advanced paper. Just as I imagined, this class strengthened my writing skills to the point where I am confident to keep moving forward into college writing classes and to keep challenging …show more content…
Even though we talked a lot about quotation use during this semester, I still feel weak when including them in my papers. Because I am not comfortable in using quotations and citations, I am going to challenge myself to write a research paper this summer for a 4-H project. I know that comfort will come through practice, and I hope I can master this skill! Writing seems to be all around me: in my extracurricular activities, employment, and future academic plans. The skills I have learned in this class have already aided me without the semester even being complete! The scholarship essay was a very important essay that I am glad I learned how to write, and I am relieved to now have prior knowledge about the essay before writing all of my own. At the beginning of the semester, when you showed us the past students’ responses, procrastination was in almost every response. Procrastination seemed to be a slight problem when writing my papers, but I also found that I had difficulty writing my papers in class around my peers. I was distracted easily which is not an aid in writing papers. Working in a quiet place with minimal distractions helped the process of my paper-writing even if it cost me valuable work time in class. I definitely could have worked to finish my papers a couple days before the due date rather than the night

During this semester of English W131, I have experienced both accomplishments and setbacks while learning how to improve my writing skills. Throughout the course, I have learned that writing is not only about how much information is in the paper, but also about how well the writer’s thoughts are expressed throughout the text. Practicing many different styles of writing as I did in the class has helped me tremendously with my delivery in my writing. I believe that this course was one to prepare us for future writing courses with professors we will encounter who will give us feedback that may puzzle us because it will require more work and more thinking. Although I have had difficulty in the class, I do believe that I have learned from my mistakes and that I am finishing the course with stronger writing skills that will help me though the rest of my college career and life.…

I started my journey through writing this year a bundle of nerves and a stomach full of coffee. This is my first year taking an advanced English course, but I was determined to do well. There has been no sleeping in class or slacking off this year, I’m lucky enough to take a college course a year early and at a better price, and I’m not going to waste it. I’ve learned a lot this semester, including but not limited to: identifying how exactly the author’s purpose and audience determines effective writing, developing pieces of writing though a process of planning, revising, and drafting, compose an organized essay with clear points and main ideas, used appropriate tone and formality, critiqued writing, and finally how to grasp the MLA format. My writing has improved through the concepts I have learned this semester.…

First, the best essay I wrote throughout the entire year would be the “American Dream” essay. The two main reasons I chose this is that it showed that I can work with a group to create a comprehensive essay, and it presented an idea to which I could base an opinion around. This paper was the first to show that I was able to work together with other people in creating the whole paper, and made it possible for me to understand how to work quickly and efficiently with a group dynamic. The main difference in this paper from any other was that I had some ideas to share about the theme, and had an opinion to base the pathos of my argument. Next, the grade I would give myself for my overall writing is a C+/B-.…

I was not an excellent writer at the beginning of the school year, but I can gladly say now that I have inherited more writing skills that I will benefit from in the future. One of those skills is being able to reflect on every angle on my topic to allow me to organize my ideas accurately. This skill is beneficial to learn, for it helped with my report essay to acquire the focus of my paper more clearly. Moreover, this skill helped me write papers in my other classes more easily and efficiently. Likewise, my voice can be read strongly throughout the personal narrative essay, because the passion I had for my topic was an emotional one.…

Throughout this course, writing took more than just writing about what you read. Here I learned to process all the information that needs to be processed and come up with some way to get it out on paper. With writing I have learned that vocabulary and grammar are two very affective sides to it. With grammar I have learned when to end a sentence. Working on grammar for my writing also allowed me to learn, when the time came for me to use punctuation and extend the sentence.…

You may be asking yourself, why should we care about self-esteem levels? Well if you have ever put off a task to the last minute, you may have experienced a dip in your self-esteem levels; or perhaps you put it off because your self-esteem level was already low. In this paper I discuss the link between self-handicapping in individuals with low self-esteem and procrastination. Although people with high self-esteem also self-handicap and procrastinate, the impact on persons with low self-esteem that were studied had substantially more negative effects. Human beings want to feel good about themselves (self-enhancement) as well as having the desire to have consistent information, or wanting the world to make sense [(self-consistency)…

Students who procrastinate have bad academic performances, grades and a “whatever” attitude when it comes to doing their school work. This is a bad habit many students have. They can break this bad habit by changing their habits, staying more focused and staying organized. There are different types of procrastinations students perform. According to Lauren Rosetti (2011), author of Procrastination behaviors in college students, “Procrastination is defined as the act of postponing an activity or task until another point in time which can result in not having enough time to complete the work.…
