Luther was the son of a Farmer but his father decided to mine copper instead to help the family’s financial situation.
Luther’s mother had many children and disciplined them harshly.
He attended Latin school where he was often very quiet and reserved yet very talented.
Luther’s parents hoped he would become a lawyer or that he would have some high paying job.
But Martin swore to become a monk on July 2, 1505.
He swore to become a monk while caught in a horrible storm because he was almost struck by lightning.
Once he was nearly struck he figured it was God’s sign to become a monk.

The church told people that they had to buy salvation and they did buy salvation through indulgences. And the church made a LOT of money.
But Martin did not agree that people had to buy salvation.
He believed people got into heaven through God’s grace.
Because he disagreed he started preaching against the selling of indulgences. But this was not enough…
Luther decided to write a letter to the church and included 95 reasons why they should stop selling indulgences.
After it was written he nailed it to the church
