In the 1999 film ,Dead Poet’s Society ,Mr.Keating ,an untraditional teacher at an all boys school ,encourages his students to be individuals by telling them “Carpe Diem. Seize the day boys, make your lives extraordinary”(Keating,DPS).Carpe Diem means to seize the day .This idea is so powerful because nothing is stopping anyone from achieving his or her goals and desires. Neil, a student of Mr. Keatings becomes the definition of Carpe Diem.He goes against his unruly father that restricts him to focus on nothing but school. Neil goes against his father by acting is a play in secret knowing what might come from it.Neil gets caught and his father disapproved, but he did the play and did not care what his father thought of him or the play. This did not work out in Neil’s favor, but he did what he wanted.He knew from the start there was going to be problems, but he just goes for it. If everyone conforms to society, they would not have a happy life everyone has goals and things they need and want to achieve.
