College was nothing I expected and the transition from high school to college was tough. During my senior year of high school, I took easier classes unlike everyone else who took harder ones to prepare themselves for college. In my classes, I never had to study or worry about the workload, but in college it was way different. I wasn’t sure how to study for exams, so I struggled at the beginning of the semester. I also came to this school not knowing anybody, which was hard because I am shy and I struggle to put myself out there. The first semester of college taught me to be independent though. Through field hockey I gained knowledge about valuable lessons such as, hard work, dedication, and how to be a better team player. I became more confident in myself in my first semester of college. I’ve always struggled with confidence, especially after a bad grade or game, but I no longer think negatively and if I am more confident I will be able to perform better. Coming into college, I was worried about making friends, since I didn’t know anybody that was going to Elizabethtown and I am shy, but making friends was easy. It helped that I didn’t pretend to be anyone else but myself. In college, no one cares what you’re doing with your life, so being myself was easier. This made me value my friendships at home. I need to make more time to visit friends and do fun things with them because they are still important to me. Another thing I learned was I like being alone. Many people see it as a bad thing, but sometimes the quiet is good. While I do like alone time, I learned I need to go out and do more things on the weekend. I usually sat in my room and did nothing on the weekends, which I want to change. Finally, I discovered the hard work I do outside the classroom pays off in the
