When participating in an online, self-paced university such as University of the People you need to be a self-directed, intrinsically motivated, active learner. In order to be successful at that you need to possess several key character traits. Of these traits two of the most important in my opinion is to have self-discipline and the ability to take initiative. When participating in University of the people, it’s a lot different from a traditional brick and mortar school. At a traditional university or college, you attend class in person, you discuss a specific topic that day, and you are given a specific assignment that may be due the next day. As I discussed in the prior paragraph I like to go through the learning guide first thing Thursday morning and in my calendar plot out exactly which assignments I will do on which nights. I usually start with reading and assessments on Thursday and Friday. Followed by Discussion forums and responses Saturday and Sunday. Then Monday and Tuesday I tackle any written assignments and tests. Then Wednesday I go through my checklist and work on my Learning Journals. My work ethic keeps me very dedicated to my work as well as school work. Unfortunately, my work ethic can also be listed as one of my weaknesses. As a result, when it comes time to do my school work at night, when I usually focus on school, I sometimes find myself exhausted from the long day’s work that I struggle to focus and put rational thoughts together. Another weakness, and this sounds terrible listing it as a weakness, is my dedication to my family. It sometimes can be very hard for me to tell my children I can’t read to them tonight because I have to get going on my school work. Or to tell my wife she has to go to bed alone tonight because I have an important assignment that I cannot put

A weakness that I have is that I do not know how to say no to individuals that ask me for help since I love to help people. It is important that I learn to say no when helping others gets in the way of me accomplishing my tasks. It is important that I do both, but not when I run the risk of not meeting my deadlines and me staying late hours after work to get my work done. It has not been an easy task saying no, but I am learning to be okay with saying no because it is important that it does not interfere with my responsibilities.…

Introduction Definitions of intelligence vary among scholars, theorists, and laypersons, due to its multidimensionality. However, intelligence typically involves an individual’s ability to learn from experience and adapt to the environment in which they live. I believe that the construct of intelligence should encompass an individual’s ability to effectively communicate in both written and verbal form, to think logically, and to express creativity. Two intelligence tests in which I recently had the opportunity to take and score included the Shipley Institute of Living Scale-2 and the Wonderlic Personnel Test.…

But as we learned a little bit more in depth about how each of them worked I was able to relate to certain ones. This semester in critical thinking class, I learned many new things that affected my everyday life. One of those things was VOC or (voice of criticism) and ego defense. Online Learning or (eLearning) has been a staple of higher education for a while now. Since the rise of the Internet, Universities have all been able, in various ways, to utilize the newfound technology to help make learning more accessible to students as well as management for faculty (Picciano, 2016). Since many courses and programs (degrees) are offered via Course Management Systems (CMS) or Learning Management Systems (LMS) as opposed to the traditional classroom approach, even registration is done through some type of system that connects with the LMS. Higher education has reached a point where interacting with an LMS like Blackboard, or Canvas is even common in regular “in person classes”. For example, faculty will often request assignments,…
