For some readers, it is a better way to capture their attention and have a better understanding of the data presented. When referring back to an article that uses these visual aids, it can save time because the information is easier to find than solely searching through printed words. In The Obesity Epidemic, I demonstrated proficiency in graphic communication. I inserted charts that showed the trends in obesity among American adults and the financial impact that obesity creates (Dobbs). In The Visa Waiver Program is a Tool for Success, I had an excellent opportunity to utilize logos, ethos, and pathos. In that essay, I was in favor of the Visa Waiver Program (VWP). My argument took a logos approach, emphasizing that the benefit of obtaining information about criminals and terrorists outweighed the risk of the ways that the program could be exploited to harm the citizens of the United States. It was supported by statistics and expert testimony (Dobbs). If I was against the VWP, I could have used pathos to appeal to the reader’s fear of how the program would threaten their safety.
