Self Reflection Paper On Uc Davis

Improved Essays
At UC Davis, I am an University Honors Program student so I take smaller sized honors level classes with other honors students. While in class, I noticed that most honors students are very involved in class projects and have their own approach to projects. I was put into a random group for a project that accounted for a majority of the grade. In my group, every member had their own ideas and opinions on the way the project should be completed which is great because every member was very involved in the assignment. However this caused problems among the group as the members couldn’t agree on a decision to be made about the project. I personally didn’t agree with some of the concepts or approaches other members wanted to take. Instead of arguing

The experiment consisted of a total sample size of n=145 subjects all of whom were current GVSU students ages 18-28 years old. Inclusion factors for subjects included knowledge of their overall Grade Point Average (GPA) and had to be current GVSU students. Subjects were not eligible for the study (exclusion factors) if: they were non-GVSU students (due to inconsistent grading scales across universities), if they were incoming freshman (incomplete overall GPA), and if they did not know their current GPA. Further descriptive data regarding subjects is on (table 1, appendix A). Variables/ Measures: GVSU students were the subjects for the research and target population.…

The main challenge of this group situation is that there was a sudden rise of conflict among members at the beginning to mid phase of the project. This resulted the possible development of groupthink (Janis, 2008). As a leader in this situation, I would firstly feel lousy and disappointed in myself that I didn’t take note of group’s division and how the meeting could be more inclusive of everyone’s opinion (Chadha, 2016). However, at that point, I would also probably feel confused but yet curious as to why it was suddenly voiced out, hence thought that I should facilitate to explicit the thoughts and feelings of each member to better understand as well.…

INTRODUCTION Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) have been and are critical drivers of social mobility and social change in the Black community. Since their founding they have had missions to provide access and opportunity for Black people when they were excluded or denied admittance elsewhere. Today, HBCUs continue close the societal and economic gaps that exist for Black people in America. HBCUs represent just three percent of institutions of higher education, enroll less than ten percent of African Americans in higher education, but graduate more than 17 percent of African American bachelor degrees and more than 24 percent of African American bachelor degrees in STEM fields (NCES, 2016).…

It’s a excellent experience for us to study at UCSD. The trip broaden my view and change my perspective a lot on American culture and society. In the trip, I deeply feel that America is a country where people is hospitable. Another thing that impress me is that you should show your respect to people no matter what work he is doing. To some extent, part of the social custom and culture in San Diego is things we should learn.…

Everyone knows how bad it is when you are in a group project, and someone in the group takes over the whole thing and won’t let anyone else make suggestions. Someone like this can make the the project miserable for the rest of the group and it puts more work on themselves because they don’t think that anyone else is capable of doing the work, so that person has to do the work themselves. You also want someone who is passing all classes. This way if we do projects in NJHS, the student won't feel overwhelmed with NJHS and trying to get their grades up in school.…

As I came to college, my family and I anticipated I would be following a simple mold of a conscientious student. One that is highly focused in some limited number of long term goals. Don 't get me wrong, this only meant that I had high expectations out of my college education. For some people, this path leads them to great success. But, I slowly realized my vision of success needed to have stories from different roads and bridges, than just one simple path.…

Ineffective Physics Group Worksheet Most of the teachers follow a new style of teaching, which requires students to work in groups in order to benefit from each other. However, this style can be ineffective if the text that is provided to each group does not have clearly stated guidelines. It also can be ineffective if it does not specify who should work with whom, especially in science classes where the abilities of one person varies from another. In most of these cases, one or two of the members take the responsibility for an entire assignment.…

Lone Star College has a lot of helpful resources and services that I didn’t know about, but there were only 5 that really stood out to me. The first service were The Dance and Zumba Classes in the health and wellness center because I do like to stay active and I feel like those to classes will help to stay fit. Secondly, I chose the Library because they have study rooms that students can use to study when they need a quiet place to look over notes, and I feel that this will benefit me a lot because if I have test that I have to study for I will be able to go there and look over some notes without having to be interrupted by people I will really be able to concentrate on what I need to look over. The third resource I decided to choose was the…

During lecture, the professor would also tell us little stories (that were still very much on topic) that has to do with whatever topic that he was talking about. These stories would range from things that has happened during his work experiences before becoming a professor to when he was still an undergrad attending the same institution as we were. These stories that he would share to us had really helped me stay awake and focused during class considering it was a very early morning class that started at eight-thirty. I believe that this style of teaching is very rare and most professors I’ve taken and even to this very moment, here at UC Davis chooses to utilize. Professors tend to feel very distant to me, in terms of the materials that they…

Throughout the year, as a class we have been given many different challenges in either the form of an essay, speech, or group presentation. The final assignment given to us was a group project presentation. From growing up in an age filled with technology, I have come to love projects that revolve around making some form of a PowerPoint presentation. This PowerPoint though, was both difficult and interesting for the reasons of being assigned group members not of my own choosing, learning to listen to others ideas which can help me to learn something new, and using former knowledge while working together to create a clean, in depth, and well prepared presentation. With working in groups of students whom I have known since I was young but…
