By setting a goal and then surpassing that goal, has inspired me to continue on my new lifestyle and better food choices. Reading labels when shopping has played a significant role in reaching my goals. Therefore, learning how important it is to warm up, stretch prior to exercise, and cooling down have also been engrained I my memory. When it comes to understanding yourself and your personality on a deeper level than normally, you must take personal stories into perspective that have shaped your life while growing up. According to McAdams, “defining oneself through a personal story is an act of psychological and social responsibility” (Engler 2009). Psychological and social responsibility relate to how you act onto actions around you and how you tie society into your viewpoint of the world. In other words, explaining yourself through a story can show several things such as how your emotions played an affect, the type of response you displayed to something that happened, and as well as the lessons you learned through a personal but also social aspect. Helen, the unit I worked on prior to where I am now, was a Med-Surg unit and our nurse manager initiated the change to do bedside report as well. It was a change that as nurses we were not use to. It involved having to go into the patient’s room and give report with the patient present. It is supposed to involve the patient in their plan of care, which in turn is supposed to improve patient satisfaction, as well as overall care. Our nurse manager would out of nowhere appear and follow her employees around to make sure that bedside report was being done.…

Self-Reflection 2 Eliut Lopez-Enriquez Millersville University Moral distress comes in many ways to many nurses. My moral distress situation came about when an unresponsive patient came to the emergency room and the family had a Do Not Resuscitate/Do Not Intubate paperwork. I was the primary nurse; the house supervisor was present to ensure that the proper paperwork was at hand. After verification of the paperwork and talks with the family, the team stood by to ensure the patient no further suffering and no further distress felt by the family.…

I first became interested in counseling when I was helping a friend with serious drug related problems and family problems seek help and counsel from advisors. Being just sixteen, I didn’t know how to help him efficiently and felt both powerless and helpless at trying to find adequate resources and services to help him deal with his problems. While I did eventually find counseling services and potential help for him, the effects of his psychological problems were so brutal that he committed suicide. This profound experience of losing a close friend to suicide forced me to develop a strong interest into understanding the role, guidance and motivations that leads people to such extremes. At this point, I had already cultivated the desire to…

I have come to the point where I cherish these journals because I am able to express my emotions coherently with an unbiased audience, in a way they are comforting. Emotion is something that defines who we are as person, our daily attitude, and how we will perceive unique events in our lives. I really enjoyed this chapter because of the main focus of emotion. To be honest I rarely show my emotions, I try to surpass them, but I am fully aware when I am experiencing diverse emotions and the feeling they give me as I experience my daily distinctive life. I understood the definition given by the author concerning emotion as something that defines you for a major time in your life, it may be a day or a few weeks, but it is something that is prolonged.…
