Self Reflection In Counseling

Register to read the introduction… An exercise in class allowed me to understand my own reasoning for helping others as well as what may be my own selfish reasons for seeking this profession. For example, at one point in the exercise, I broke ground into my own self-assessment and found insight that I was partially seeking the profession for money and for my savior complex. I felt that this observation of myself showed that I was overall, functioning normally with both healthy and minimal unhealthy motivations. I would feel that our session would be highly confidential; I think that I would be speaking in a safe place and comfortable to open up about my presenting issues. Plus, as a client I would feel the center of the therapeutic process. I think I would feel comfortable as a client. The specific assigned skills that I perform are all within the counseling skills approach. For example, my skills range from exploring, insight, and actions stages as the foundation of all of my skills. Although, I tend feel that that I cover all skills (e.g., building a rapport with the client; attending and listening; probing questions; and reflecting of feelings) to list a few at one time or another throughout the counseling process. I feel that I do these assigned skills fairly well. I try to incorporate a few skills to each topic of conversation with the client. I also use the sheet of paper to keep me in line with my goal oriented process in getting very natural in using all skills. Furthermore, I feel that as long as I continue to practice on these skills my ability will just continue to
