How Social Media Changed My Life

Born in Portugal, we stayed there until I was four, then relocated to Ireland and left as I was about to turn six, we returned for a year and then set our sights on the American Dream, off to the U.S. we went, I was seven and have been here since. Throughout formative years of childhood development, from four to eight years of age, I was moving back and forth across cultures, I couldn't communicate with people because I couldn't understand them, during this time I was alienated, this caused me to spend most of my time alone, I became introverted and began thinking a lot during these years. I believe this set the foundation for the person I am today, and in my opinion, the self-reflection and self-growth I incurred due to it helped me mature faster than my peers, so that presently I don't identify much with most my age.

Social media has helped me to become a global citizen that's aware and cares for the well-being of the world, it has helped me develop my own viewpoints by exposing me to information that I can then delve deeper into and research for myself. It has helped in enlightening me, it has also aided my morals in development. I've grown up lower class so I know to appreciate every little thing, my family's financial situation has certainly shaped me, I've been taught to live frugally and conserve. It's also motivating, I know my families future relies on my achievements, my parents don't have a retirement or any savings, they need me to succeed.
