The Strength In My Speech

Improved Essays
The strength in my speech included my thesis, which was informative while being short and sweet. The organization of my speech was strong, and included the introduction, body, and conclusion. My introduction captured people’s attention while giving my speech. The body of my speech has good structure with strong main points. My conclusion wrapped everything up and left people hanging. The delivery with my speech was fantastic. I made sure to make eye contact with everyone constantly and with energy. I used some gestures, but I could work on improving them. I felt as if my vocal dynamics and facial expressions were decent. I definitely went in appearing confident and it really showed the audience. I wished I would have run through my speech a few more times before giving it. I may not have been confident but I was prepared and …show more content…
At this moment I’m still in my college outline process, then I will begin practicing giving my speech.

In order to meet my goals I need to:
1. I will need to finish my college outline, and ask question if I need help. 2. I’m then going to begin to put the words into my mouth from my outline.
3. I will then practice my speech multiple times, and give the speech to my family members.

3) I followed my steps with ease but I didn’t put enough time in to truly feel confident with giving my speech. I felt like I might forget to say something or mess up because I hadn’t practiced over and over again. Although my speech went very well I believe I fell short of my goal because I didn’t feel confident going into my speech.

Goal #4
One concrete goal I have is to be prepared to give my speech in front of people.

At this moment I’m still in my outline process, so I will need to wrap everything up quickly.

In order to meet my goals I need to:
1. Finish the outline process, and know the information well.
2. I’m then going to prepare by giving my speech over and

One of thing things A Pocket Guide to Public Speaking talks about that I want to draw from going forward is forming a specific speech purpose. “Ask yourself: What do you want the audience to learn/do/reconsider/agree with?” (Page 50). This is an idea that I want to keep in mind a lot more before I start writing my speeches. By being able to pinpoint my intentions I believe I will be more effective in making audience laugh or making them consider a certain idea, etc.…

Course Reflection 1. After taking the course Speech 301 during spring semester of 2017, I have learned that before any speech is presented it first needs to go through a process of constructing it, which takes time and effort. But that’s not all, it takes research, creativity, and practice to prepare and deliver a good speech. You need to get the audience attention before even telling then what your speech is about. After you start delivering the speech it is also important to keep the audiences attention throughout the whole speech such as, keep them interested, entertained, or in a suspense.…

Like with anything, it's important to look at the negatives and figure out how to fix them, it's also important to look at the positives and figure out how to retain them. I have three goals for my next presentation and I have figured out how to achieve those goals. My first goal is to maintain good eye contact with my audience and I can do this by being more comfortable with what I need to say. In order to be more comfortable I will need to review and practice what I want to say more often. Another goal is to continue my strength of good organization.…

I also finished writing my conclusion on my outline during band that day, which is the period right before English. The week when presentations started, I was gone due to an FFA trip that I was signed up for. I was gone for two days, but it was two days that people presented their speeches. My first idea was a book, but I found out that five other people were…

I think I want to start writing my speech as soon as possible so I have more time to write it. The more time I have to write it and practice it, the better my speech will be when I present it. I have to try to space out the time I prepare for my speech and not cram everything in the last week and I will be one hundred percent prepared. Having more time for preparing myself, I will be able to use more coping techniques to calm myself, so then I will be confident. This class is helping me a lot…

Practice makes perfect as everyone has heard this saying before. In the future, I plan on practicing my speeches more by speaking in front of a mirror over and over again to give myself the impression of what I look like when speaking in front of a group of people. Practicing in front of a mirror over and over again will also help me memorize my speech more instead of relying on my note card as often, giving me more confidence while speaking. I tend to use my note card as a comforting thing when I get nervous and forget what I am about to say. It gives me the chance to collect my thoughts and remember what I was going to say as well as staying on track of where I was going in my speech.…

Up during my speech specificly the last one, i felt super nervous, but looking back i appeared confident and great body gestures. The one thing that doesn 't surprise me is that in all my speeches i managed to have a great tone of voice and enthusiasm. Personally my strongest performance had to be the persuasive speech, after looking at it i noticed i looked the most confident, my content, my structure, and my transitions were spot on. My weekest performance however was my first speech, i looked so nervous, i had very little content, i was not into the speech, no transitions, and like i said i learned a lot from this…

Final Persuasive Speech Reflection Believe me when I say that my progress from then to now has come a long way. Initially after giving the persuasive speech, I felt that there has been little process in all of this time that I had spent trying to learn to communicate more effectively. Worst of all perhaps, I felt powerless to do anything to change this. This was my most practiced speech and it did not feel that way. Even the thought of having to go back and essentially relive those 7 minutes was not something I was particularly excited about.…

You are in class one day when the teacher announces a new assignment: students are to research and give an informative speech about any topic of their choosing. As the student, imagine that you are terrified to not only present the speech in front of your entire class, but to have to go through the process of picking a topic, researching it, organizing your speech, and practicing it as well. At the beginning of my communication class, this was how I felt about producing and giving speeches. I was nervous to talk in front of the class because I have always been very shy and have suffered from extreme speech apprehension. I also dreaded picking a topic and organizing my speeches as well, since I could never make up my mind and I was never good…

Throughout the course, I learned different aspects of project management, and skills that can be used in the everyday life as long as involve interacting with other people. In this class I learned about how to be a better team member. This semester I was reminded of how important communication is and how people need to keep emphasizing it as one of the most important skills any person could possesses. The personality test was useful, I think it gave all of us a good way to start to see how everyone is different. It made it easier for each of us to better understand one another in how our unique personalities can be a challenge when working with others.…

A couple things I would change are how I plan out developing the speech and how much to practice it. For developing the speech, I need to be sure of what exactly I want to talk about at the interview. I felt that my questions were interesting, but a couple were somewhat unneeded. However, I came to the conclusion that it is better to have too much than not enough for an interview because I had enough information to work with. Also, I should have taken more time to thoroughly practice my speech out loud in front of others.…

I sometimes get nervous about what people are thinking about my speech when I am giving it but if I don’t judge people from the audience then I will have the mindset when I am on stage that people from the audience are not judging me. Lastly, I think that I will be able to get up in front of people and give a speech without getting extremely nervous. I haven’t had much experience with speaking in front of big groups but hopefully by the end of this semester I will be very good at it without having any nervous feelings if someone asked me to give a public…
