In Professor Jovanovic’s book “Hey Ladies, Stop Apologizing… and Other Career Mistakes Women Make”, she conveys a very important message for women— to be confident, to live outside your comfort zone, and never be sorry. This guidebook acts as an educational tool for women, and it’s main focus is on women’s empowerment. Professor Jovanovic argues that it is imperative for women to understand that in a world where their accomplishments are devalued, under appreciated, and seldom recognized in a way that is similar to their male counterparts, that they need to take control of their lives, and essentially be their own cheerleader. Major Positions There are three main stages of behaviorism each reflecting a different position. Watson’s behaviorism was the initial stage that was centered on observation methods. In these objective testing methods, subject’s responses to stimuli were measured as opposed to other components such as intelligence (Schultz, 1969). The two kinds of response are explicit, directly observable, and implicit, occur inside the body.…
In Serve or Fail, the author, Dave Eggers, brings up the point that community service should be required in colleges. According to Eggers, “college is too long-it should be three years-and even with a full course load and part-time jobs there are many hours in the days and weeks that need killing.” He believes that with all of the free time that students have, they should do something productive and helpful like community service. Additionally, Eggers thinks that if colleges were to require community service, then it would not only improve their working environment, but it would also touch and improve each student. I would agree with Eggers because I have found out that when colleges require community service, it increase their students’ self-efficiency, boost their teamworking skills, and helps them find a sense of responsibility.…
When starting something new or changing an aspect of your life, you may have a little voice in your head that is doubtful of your abilities to succeed. The little voice that says things like “I am such a disappointment” or in my case, “Why did I even think about taking Psychology 150? I can not pass that class.” This little voice, as small as it may be, slowly eats away at your confidence until there is nothing left...unless you learn how to diminish it.…

Long essay number 2 “third-wave feminism” The book The Feminine Mystique in Chapter 13, “The Forfeited Self” is describing self-destruction of American housewives. Housewives who live according to the feminine mystique do not have a personal purpose in life to evoke their full abilities therefore they can not grow to self-realization. Then without a purpose, they lose a sense of who they are and also to be able see into their future. Women have never been able to realize their human potential in life until now, as in the film “Aliens,” where the women rule.…
The strengths that I have acquired through high school are persistence, endurance, and work ethic. In high school I have always been persistent to keep my grade up and made it my goal to be on the honor roll. Freshman year I was able to make it to second honors, which is to have quarter grades no lower than a C. I persisted myself to make it to first honors (no grade lower than a B-). Towards the end of my sophomore year I achieved my goal. I persisted to make it to principal’s list junior and senior year.…
Silverstein had to say. I felt that getting advice from someone with this much experience was a must, and this led to my next question which was, “What is your advice for a new student in your field?” He emphasized the importance of planning ahead, and making sure that graduate school was a goal to keep in mind. He stated that a psychology degree can get a job. However, the most fun and interesting careers in this field requires graduate degrees.…

Ever since I was a young girl, I’ve had a complicated life because of the background behind who I am. I would always look at my mom and question myself on why it was so hard for her to find a job? Why was it that we didn’t have our own home? How come I moved so far away from where I was born? Where was my dad?…

There are a couple of obstacles that have played a major role in me becoming who I am today. I've had naysayers trying to negatively influence my thoughts, and crush my dreams by saying that said I will never amount to anything, or that I should give up on my dreams and get realistic with my goals. A couple years ago I was a completely different person. I was out of shape physically, my academic performance was very poor, and I had a terrible attitude. I improved greatly in athletics and my academic career.…
As my first semester almost ends, there is a plethora of aspects that played a major role in how much stress and pressure I have encountered. These aspects have created negative and positive outlooks on college and life, which is evident in my attitude as the semester closes. I have experienced so much pressure, and anxiety from one semester because of my perfectionism. I am constantly checking Moodle and MyClaflin to be on top of things. From this semester, I have reviewed various syllabuses and schedules of assignments, which has all become a blur.…
6. If my friend was experiencing a great deal of stress issues, I would suggest a few things to her. First, I would encourage her to reduce the amount of caffeine, sweets, and fried foods she is consuming. These foods and drinks can trigger and aggravate stress, causing her to be more anxious and compounding the problems. Second, I would suggest for her to drink more water, eat a “rainbow of foods,” and attempt to consume some food every four hours.…
