The introduction of Self-Management For College Students: The ABC Approach focused on three main topics; why everyone should learn self-management, the outcomes to expect from gaining self-management and the significance of the ABC Model and its application. There were a couple of reasons stated as to why everyone should learn self-management but it all resulted to the fact that our academic, personal and professional success will depend on it. Thus, by learning to self manage now, we prepare ourselves for any type of work because we will be able to adapt as needed. And the outcomes of learning self-management is that it improves relationships, makes us have greater independence, give us more positive feelings and energy, and it helps us have …show more content…
There are two major terms that accompanies ABC interaction and that is firing order and trigger. The firing order will determine what needs to change in order to manage ourselves and knowing the trigger of our ABC interactions suggests which component to address first if we desire a change. It is important to notice that one ABC interaction can lead others and it can take the pattern of either a downward or an upward spiral. A downward spiral is a series of ABC interaction that lead to a negative outcome or experienced. An example is someone who put off their paper to the last minute until they feel so anxious that they resort to plagiarize. An upward spiral is the opposite, it is a series of ABC interaction that lead to a positive outcome or experience. An example is someone who starts their paper the day after it was assigned, they get an A on the paper and in the end they feel happy and think they will succeed in the …show more content…
Since many emotions and sensations are prompted by our thoughts it can be easy to confuse one with the other. For example, people say “I feel stupid.” instead of “I think I’m stupid.” but you can’t feel stupid since it is a judgement not an emotion. One way to differentiate cognitions from feelings is by substituting the word ‘feel’ with ‘think’ and if it fits the statement that means it is cognition. Although, most social scientists favors one of the modality over the other, the ABC Model holds the perspective of a minimal version of the Multimodal Approach which iterates that all three modalities, affect, behavior and cognition, are equally important in achieving our
