There were various reasons for why the young were married such as ; the protection of females being raped within the community or by foreign rulers , the prevention of conversion of the religion and to strengthen military and political alliances between kingdoms and cast system. Throughout the Mughal period , the degradation of women in society further expanded. In my questionnaire, 87.1% of respondents said that child marriage was a common practice in both India and Afghanistan in the past and in contemporary society.This is supported by data from the girls not brides organization , according to my research India has the highest number of child brides in the world , it is estimated that 47% of girls in India are married before their eighteenth birthday. The reason why it had such a high rate in my survey was because it highlights the fact Asian sub-continents are known for having child brides. However according to my data Afghanistan wasn't on the list of the ‘countries of the most child brides’. Examining the data received from my interview , it is an example of how traditional views were on child marriage in Afghanistan when my dad was situated in Afghanistan throughout the 1960s and 1970s. Child marriage wasn't prevalent when my dad was situated in Afghanistan , even if it were to be permitted society wouldn't acknowledge it as a contravention of their basic human right as it may have been considered as an
