Self-Fulfilling Prophecy: Is Johnny A Good Kid?

Improved Essays
In class, after I handed in my first observation, we started talking about the self-fulfilling prophecy. The self-fulfilling prophecy is a prediction that directly or indirectly causes itself to become true due to positive feedback between belief and behavior. In other words, behavior influenced by expectations causes those expectations to be true. I believe that Johnny is a good kid, I’ve seen him get really excited about work and do well. On the other hand, I have also seen him talk back and hit people for no apparent reason. Last week two boys were throwing a toy back and forth when one of them missed the toss and it ended up near Johnny. One of the kids yelled out to the other friend, “Get that toy before Johnny steals it from us!”. Johnny was not even paying attention to the boys until that statement when he looked over at them puzzled. The boys then yell at Johnny again to stay away from their things. Johnny then ran, picked up the toy, and would not give it back. Everyone expects this kid to always be doing the wrong thing, but he was not even interested in their toy before they said something to him. …show more content…
However, other kids are constantly shutting his ideas down and telling him to leave them alone. Whenever the kids have a group project, Johnny always chooses me as his partner and sometimes I can get him working while other times he just wants to fool around. I like working with Johnny because I like those moments where he finds something he is super interested into. Csikszentmihalyi describes flow as a state in which a person is fully immersed in whatever activity they are doing. When Johnny is experiencing flow he can accomplish everything that the other kids do. However, I feel like since no one expects anything from him, he barely is ever able to motivate

Self-fulfilling prophecies is the perceptual process in which our expectations about another person cause that person to act more consistently with those expectations. As a manager or a coach, they have the power to see the potential in others that they don't necessarily see themselves. They can encourage actions from the people they see through positive and negative reinforcement. It is important that leaders need to develop and maintain a positive, yet realistic, expectation towards their employees/ players. On teams coaches can form positive expectations about a good player and let that player play more in a game.…

Etiological/Precipitating and Maintaining Factors Throughout Billy’s case, there are many factors that both contributed to the onset of his diagnosis as well as maintained it. An important etiological factor present in the case was parent-child interactions, specifically between Billy and his mother. Li et al. Loneliness is another unpleasant thing existing in this world that Kidd depicts in her novel, and throughout her work, she shows that this kind of awfulness can also be dealt with using positive actions. In the exposition, she makes it apparent that loneliness plays a huge role in the protagonist’s life. When Kidd depicts Lily’s life in the beginning, she informs her audience that Lily’s mother, Deborah, is dead, she has no friends besides her caretaker, Rosaleen, and she is in “misery [from] living with T.Ray (3),” her cruel father. Based on all of these facts, it is clear that Lily is a forlorn child and is feeling empty inside. However, as the story progresses, Kidd illustrates how the positive actions of the calendar sisters help Lily escape…

Self-fulfilling prophecy is when a person or group believes what is said about them so hard that they bring it into existence. The movie showed how many black men do not feel like they have options and winded up going down the wrong road. The jail system has no interest in help but keeping them there or coming back. The saddest part to me about this documentary was when I realized that people do not even get a fair hearing anymore. They are offered a bogus plea deal whether they did the crime or not does not even matter.…

John Holt’s “SCHOOL IS BAD FOR CHILDREN” article was nothing short of a bogus, exaggerated, and an opinionated piece of writing that’s been filled with far too many generalizations about what and how a child should “learn” in school. It’s ridiculous that John Holt viewed school as something actually detrimental. Although it’s difficult to entirely disagree about his claims in every single point in his writing because some of it is applicable to certain types of students and school. Ultimately school was built for the purpose of aiding society develop.…

Essay “If you want your children to keep their feet on the ground, put some responsibility on their shoulders,” - Abigail Van Buren Parents are the reason for the illegal actions of their child. This is because some parents do not take the time to talk to their child, letting them know what is right and what is wrong, these children will later grow up into dangerous and immoral criminals. There are people who neglect their children and do not pay attention to them, and so the child will not know or learn what is right and wrong. This is why parents should be legally responsible for their children's actions because they are their child’s biggest influence, they should teach them, and penalizing will make both parents and children more responsible. When children are growing up they imitate or act like their parents, so when that parent is irresponsible, reckless, and cruel the child will most likely become that.…
