Was it just your manager/supervisor who said these types of things to you Teresa, or was it other employees too? I only wonder because I have seen situations in which a supervisor starts with low expectations, but then as they voice them, other employees start to repeat the sentiments. This seems to have a snowball effect at times, where something that started as a single person’s view can quickly come to take over others’ perceptions as well. Although a supervisor would have authority and status due to their position, others may have high status for other reasons. The type of self-fulfilling prophecy you describe sounds like the Golem effect, which is the negative effect that the low expectations of supervisors (or other significant individuals)
