“Ch-ch,” the gun is to the person 's head, and the trigger is ready to be pulled but why? Their life is perfect. Low Self-Esteem is the lack of confidence, which is mostly found in teenagers and some adults. Although many teens portray that they have their lives together, the truth is that innumerable teens struggle with low self-esteem because of the media, and relationships with parents. Can these thoughts be corrected, and identified?
California State University suggest the following meaning of self-esteem: “Self-esteem is how we value ourselves; it is how we perceive our value to the world and how valuable we think we are to others. Self-Esteem could be defined as: What our unconscious believes to be true about how worthy, lovable, valuable and capable we are.” If people believe that they are useless and not capable of achieving their full potential then they will have a low self-esteem. When people believe that they are capable of everything, they either have one really high self-esteem, too much pride, or an enormous ego. Low self-esteem is a thinking disorder and once this thought of one 's self is formed, this view permeates every thought, producing faulty assumptions and ongoing self-defeating behavior (Self Image Media). Media is the main cause of low self-esteem due to the perfect pictures of models that are advertised. Hawkins et al.
