The committee will first analyze each individual student’s disabilities and current level of achievement. We will then establish reasonable learning goals for each student and assign a time frame for these learning goals to occur. As a committee we will gather information from general education and special education teacher to see what strategic teaching strategies are being implemented to promote reading comprehension for all special education and 504 students. Then we will visit other schools in the district and if necessary schools outside of our current district to gain a better understanding of what strategies, technology, or methods they have in place to help promote reading comprehension for these students in their schools. As a committee, working alongside teachers we will design, develop, and implement strategies so these students can develop self-efficacy. These accommodations and modifications will be demonstrated to the general education teachers and documented to show that the teachers fully understand the specific strategies that are to be implemented. Scaffolding is a means of instruction whereby students receive assistance in completing academic tasks until they possess the skills to accomplish these tasks on their own (Graves & Avery, 1997). Teacher will be responsible for dedicating time to one on one individual instruction when other students are engaged in individual work or working in groups. The use of graphic organizers will be implemented when students are asked to take part in reading comprehension activities. Graphic organizers will help highlight main ideas, concepts, and help to relate important content knowledge to the readers.
