The transportation industry creates millions of jobs ranging from truck drivers to uber drivers. Unfortunately, Self driving technology is putting these jobs at risk. In the article “A World Without Work” by author Derek Thompson, the question is formed, “Will my profession be taken over by machinery?” If self driving vehicles are created correctly, then it will soon be illegal for a human driver to be behind the wheel. These vehicles will be much safer than human driven vehicles by limiting many mistakes humans commonly make, “Many experts now argue that autonomous technology could make the streets far safer in the future by eliminating human error.” Also the vehicles cannot be influenced by drugs or alcohol. Uber pays their employees around three million dollars an hour, or twenty six billion dollars a year. Once self driving vehicles are introduced and fully accustomed in America, uber will save all of that money by switching to artificial labor.
