The Pigman, by Paul Zindel is a book that has a boy named John and he drinks and he is still underage. So, he should not be drinking. He drinks because he gets no attention at his house; his parent yell at him all the time and do not care that he drinks. He is similar to all other Americans because people that do not have their parents to guide them in the correct way are more likely to drink because they have nothing better to do with their lives. When John goes to the cemetery he will drink and smoke all together. I know that this is true because the story states that "John cashed the check and got a six-pack of beer and a pack of cigarettes." John not only buys the pack of beer he also bought a pack of cigarettes. Mostly the reason John smokes and drinks is because he gets knows that he will get attention from adults and his peers. In her Article, “Lower the Drinking Age Back to 18: We Don 't Have Students Teach Each Other to Drive, Why Is Alcohol Different?” Elizabeth Glass Geltman describes why the legal drinking age should be reduced from 21 to 18. According to Geltman, both students and parents alike feel the frustration of the law; parents aren’t able to lawfully educate their children and students aren’t able to responsibly know their limits. The article comes after one University chose to ban hard liqueur on campus rekindling the age old debate. Between those that oppose and those that support the law, the topic appeals to a reader’s logos, pathos, and ethos in a variety of ways.…

The article that I have read is “Don’t Get Drunk, Jake”: Drinking, Drunkenness, and Sobriety in The Sun Also Rises by Donald A. Daiker. This article is mainly about claiming that Jake is not drunk as the whole meaning of the novel is seems that Jake wants to achieve his sobriety rather than to get drunk. He also proves that Jake is trying to achieve sobriety in his life based on the amount of alcohol that he had consumed, his drunkenness level and also his intention of consuming alcohol is more towards getting a state of composure in his life instead of just to get drunk without any intention. In my opinion, I agree with the writer statement about Jake didn’t gets drunk because he wants to achieve his sobriety after he has experienced a bad…

First Legal Drink: A Rhetorical Analysis of “Why America should lower the drinking age” As a high school senior, I was faced with the decision of where I wanted to go for college. I toured multiple universities, and ultimately decided the University of Nebraska at Kearney was the best fit for me. I was so excited to make friends in a new environment, and also to be on my own.
