For example according to Julie, in your conversation with her, you stated that you were in fact looking for other jobs at the time of your employment here. This is information does not need to be stated to your current employer, as it places us in a corner. It tells us that you really don’t desire a future at this company. And instead of promoting you we might even be better of firing you instead of continuing to pay an employee who is not devoted 100% to this company. A time you could’ve used this guideline was when you brought up your opinion on home ownership, which was unnecessary information that didn’t fit in with the conversation. Next ask yourself, is the risk of disclosing reasonable? There may be benefits to revealing certain information, but sometimes the risks will outweigh them.
