Proposed Self-Designed Major in Communication with a concentration in Sports Communication

Program Rationale:

Communication is the verbal and nonverbal interaction of sharing or exchanging information between people. The study and understanding of the field of communication is important for interacting in a variety of sectors. Having a keen grasp on how to share and exchange information among people in diverse settings is a skill set for students be successful in the field of communication and one that I hope to obtain in the following proposed self-designed major. Below is a list of proposed courses in the self-designed major that I believe will allow me to effectively enhance my skills in critical thinking, writing, speaking, and interacting with people. These are all key skills and aptitudes in every field of study, but they are particularly salient in my chosen field: communication with a concentration in sports communication. A degree in communication with a concentration in sports communication brings a wide diversity of courses in journalism, psychology, business and management, and administration to help prepare students for a wide variety of positions in the growing field. A degree in communication with a concentration in sports communication will allow me the opportunity to take courses in a multitude of disciplines and also give me that same strong foundation and flexibility upon graduation.
