Statics from Tulane University lead us to believe rape is more common than many people would think. Between 1973 and 1978 over 2.3 million women in America reported they were sexualy asaulted or raped,out of the eighty seven percent of women who fought the attacker only seventy one percent of these woman avoided being raped by using self defense. Seventy one percent is a large percentage of women preventing themselves from being raped by simply fighting the attacker. Sadly, the ones who did nothing and the other sixteen percent were raped. Having the ability to the fend off an attacker is very important in an attack situation, sometimes it can mean life or death. Some men have a strong fist, if someone comes to attack him he may be able to hit them relatively hard and get away from them as well as a woman may be able to do so, but in most cases it takes more. In most attack cases the attacker already expects you to react in a certain way. If the victim surprised the attacker with something besides what the attacker expects the victim will have better chance of escaping. For example in a rape situation the woman may kick the man or try to gab him in the eye with her keys, this is expected impact it is heard of quite often. These things are shown effectively in movies, but in reality it does not always work. Being able to do more than that is where safety level increase. Self defense benefits all people in dangerous situation if a person does not defend themselves and someone is intending to rape that person, that person will more than likely be raped. Going out without a fight should not be an option. Many women won 't fight a rapist in fear of being killed by the attacker.
